DESCRIPTION
A nuclear holocaust has turned Washington, DC, into a radioactive wasteland. Mutant creatures freely roam the land while a select few survivors live safely within underground shelters engineered by the Vault-Tec Corporation. Your uneventful life inside the vault takes a dramatic turn when your father mysteriously disappears. Looking for answers, you begin a journey into the great unknown — a test of survival in an inhospitable environment. Based on the acclaimed post-apocalyptic role-playing series from former publisher Interplay, Fallout 3 features a wide-open world viewed from a choice of first- or third-person perspectives.
Developed by the team behind the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and featuring the same graphics engine, Fallout 3 has you embarking on an assortment of quests while exploring, scavenging, and battling for your continued existence. Scrap-metal cities and rusted shantytowns are sources of human contact, but in between them lurk a number of hostile threats. The real-time combat is modeled after shooting games, albeit with the option to pause time for more precise shots using V.A.T.S. (the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System). V.A.T.S. lets you pinpoint vulnerability areas with the help of percentage markers displayed on each body part. The higher the percentage, the likelier you are to hit the highlighted area.
Aiming at a particular body part can cripple it, affecting the enemy's ability to use an arm or leg in combat, while critical hits result in graphic displays of dismemberment. Defeating enemies earns you experience points to enhance your character's stats and acquire abilities called "perks," or specific talents in a chosen area of expertise. Fallout 3 also features some camaraderie in the form of a loyal canine named Dogmeat and a non-player character of your choosing. A licensed soundtrack with songs from the '40s and '50s helps set the mood, offering such hits as "Way Back Home," "Anything Goes," "Butcher Pete," and "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire." ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“Isn't it sad when you have a gripe about a game but then you realize, "Can I seriously gripe about that?"
Fallout 3 was THE REASON I bought an X-Box 360, because I knew there was no way in Hell I could play it on my PC. And from the moment I came out of my mother's birthing hole (in game of course) I had been blown away. The atmosphere of the game is just enough to keep you on edge. I've hear many people complain about "Eh it feels like they recycled the same textures everywhere" but the truth is that just adds to the atmosphere for me when you get lost in the middle of the wasteland and try to find a landmark but realize everything looks the same.
And besides the "Good, Evil, Nuetral" aspect of the game (which only gives more nooks and crannies to explore) there seems to be multiple ways to play the entire game. You try to act like a strategic nut and VATS your way through everything while hoping the numbers add up, or you can just FPS-whore the game and rely on your own ability to aim a gun, or you can use the stealth aspects and just sneak around everything, maybe make things interesting and play only melee weapons, or if you really want to be crazy try acting like your a pacifist and use as minimal violence as possible. This game seriously can be played any way you feel like it and that what surprises me.
The only gripes I have in general about the game is the fact that the main quest seems over before it really gets interesting and that it seemed like once I finally had a follower the game was practically over, mind you I had spent the equivalence of 4 weeks playing the game (in actual game hours it actually took me several monthts of sitdowns to get that much time in) so I feel I have no right to complain. Also I had hit the level cap way before any of my quests were done forcing me to deal with a glass ceiling. Of course these particular aspects of the game were rectified with DLC, but as an "out of the box review" I can't help but object. Also to be completely honest some weapons in the game are just... useless especially when considering how easy it is to get other weapons. I wanted to spend the whole game using only a .32 pistol and a magnum (the only two revolvers in the game) but honestly why do that when it's better to use a hunting rifle and Lincoln's Repeater? I know this is where "play the game how you want to play it" comes in but why waste ammo using shitty guns? Also I got the Combat Shotgun way to early in the game (like the moment I stepped out of the vault, talked to Moira, and went to the super market), and because of that I feel the game was just way to easy during the earlier parts when chances are it should of been harder (not even changing the difficulty really helps this).
Regardless of my complaints, this is an awesome game, everyone who enjoys video games should at least try it once, and even though it is on multiple platforms I could easily call it a "system seller".”
