DESCRIPTION
Return to the vibrant world of Albion in this follow-up to 2004's Fable. Acclaimed developer Peter Molyneux has crafted an action role-playing game filled with moral choices, allowing you to create an altruistic or evil character based on your decisions. You begin the game as a boy or girl and will eventually mature into an adventurous adult. Explore the lush countryside, fight bandits, slay foul creatures, venture into mysterious dungeons, marry, or raise a family. Your fortune amassed during your travels can be spent on houses, castles, taverns, clothing, equipment, tattoos, and more. Your actions will literally change and shape the world, and the townsfolk will react accordingly.
The setting takes place 500 years after the original game, enabling you to use guns in combat as well as swords, bows, and spells. Fast-paced combos can be strung together by alternating between magical, ranged, and melee attacks. Fable II also features a canine companion that will perform tricks, dig up treasure, and protect you in combat. Cooperative play is supported via Xbox Live, allowing a friend to seamlessly join your world at any time. Xbox Live subscribers can also build their fortunes outside of the main game by playing Xbox Live Arcade's Fable II Pub Games. Money and prizes earned while playing the three games of chance can be transferred to your character. Acquire too much debt, however, and "collectors" might come looking for you. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“I am not here nor will I ever be here to defend Peter Molyneux's work, while I personally feel he does good work I will be the first to admit that I can clearly understand why someone would not enjoy his work. While I enjoyed Fable 2 and played it as much as I could possibly fathom I can clearly admit that there could be enough gripes to make a person question buying this game.
While I enjoyed the fact that the clothes meant nothing went it came to protecting you I felt that this would mean that there would be more clothes to wear then in the original. The truth of the matter is that there really isn't and by the end of the game you will have a higher chance of looking like George Washington then the guy on the front of the cover. Unless of course there are just several dozens of clothes that have to be FOUND and not bought (but honestly even the clothes I found were ones I bought!). Also I will admit that I liked the story, and the overall idea of "repercussions and consequences" does work well, but once the story is over (and it ends, disappointingly I might add) that's it. Sure, the game claims that "there are some things that can only be done after the main quest is over" but be aware that most of them have little merit and is just trying to keep you playing "just a little bit longer" without any true feeling of purpose. Honestly once the game is done expect to find yourself ditching the game and then picking it back up after you haven't played it for a couple of months. Also if playing a female character with an emphasis on physical combat expect her to look Chyna in the long run.
However even with these complaints I can say that I loved this game, simply because it was an improvement over the original (which I would honestly rate at about the same but certainly lower). Magic doesn't make you age anymore, you don't have to worry about changing clothes/hairdo/tattoos all the time just to get something done (well except when you have to open this one demon door), and the best part in my opinion is finally delivering on the multiplayer aspect that we've been waiting on since last game (as well as extras that you don't have to pay a second disc for!).
The truth of the matter is that chances are my gripes could probably be fixed with the inclusion of DLC I haven't had time or money to download (which apparently has been an ongoing problem). And if I finally get the DLC I will change this review to show my opinion is different. However as is the game is only "good enough" and "worth the purchase if you can find it inexpensively" but certainly not a "must buy".”

“Fable II was, for the most part, an unwelcome sequel that sought to make good the promises of the first game rather then transcend and surprise. Be that so, Fable II a lot of ambition and very few flaws in it's all too brief main quest (8-10 hours). Where Fable was Zelda with a European touch, Fable II is best describe as Zelda meets Oblivion. The game's world never quite replicates the massiveness of Oblivion and the dungeons are never as intricate as Zelda, but Lionhead Studios presents a happy medium that stands shares many of the highlights of those two action RPGs. Many have stated their disappointment in the game's Sims-aspects, but the truth is that they offer an excellent distraction inbetween quests--you can't expect them to stand out as strong as The Sims itself. Unlike Fallout 3 and GTA4, the world truly makes you feel like the role you are playing. Villagers comment on your clothes to an impressive extent, kids want to play with your dog (if you playing a morally good character), and there is always gossip going around on your latest ventures. Furthermore, the game wraps it all up in the best narrative and fighting system that this genre has seen. As much as one will find the game lacking in areas when compared to its contemporaries, I have a feeling we will all be longing for Fable II's fighting, humor, and heart when returning to Hyrule or whatever desolate wasteland Bethesda cook up next. ”
