One of two Konami ventures into the extreme sports genre in 2002, Evolution Snowboarding (companion title to Evolution Skateboarding) drops players in a ski resort overrun by evil forces known as (Boardroids). Play as any of ten pro snowboarders, including Danny Kass, Peter Line, Todd Richards, Kevin Jones, JP Walker, Bjorn Leines, Tina Basich, Travis Rice, Kelly Clark, and Rio Tahara, each rated in attack, defense, speed, jump, and technique abilities. The game's objective is to win back eight areas by defeating enemies such as Underground People, Cage Freekz, Boomer, and Shogun.
Evolution Snowboarding features music tracks by eight groups from Roadrunner Records, including 36 Crazyfists, Murderdolls, and Killswitch Engage, five videos, an arsenal of combat weapons (clubs, chains, and more), collectible gear that enhances performance during missions, and a host of snowboarding tricks, grabs, and moves. In addition to Evolution Mode, which offers customizable name, body type and regular or goofy action, players can select Quick Mode (depends on progress in Evolution Mode) or Duel Mode (battle head-to-head against another human player).
Mission progress is tracked onscreen with displays reflecting time limit, points earned, enemy and player stamina meters, and available boost amounts. From the menu, players can check out a catalog of snowboarding gear, profiles of professional riders in the game, tutorials, and video footage (acquired during gameplay). ~ Michael L.
