DESCRIPTION
This follow-up to Paradox Entertainment's games of New World conquest looks farther back through history, to give players a chance to create the Western world's first and most influential empire of all. As in the original Europa Universalis and its two sequels, players choose a nation and attempt to gain power and prestige through trade, diplomacy, and warfare with its neighboring rivals, across an historically accurate game map. Europa Universalis: Rome takes place in the time period of the Roman Empire's rise, beginning with the first Punic war and running through the defeat of Carthage to the time of Julius Caesar. Although great attention is given to the authenticity of historical details in the set-up of each game, players can customize the culture and character of the country they choose to lead, allowing them to re-create history or rewrite it to their liking. ~ T.J. “This is a pure strategy game spanning from the the earlier stages of the Roman Republic, to the beginnings of the Roman Empire. The AI can be quite agressive and the lack of battle scenes can be quite tedious. Grab a big cup of coffee for this one.”

“Well, the day started off with Europa Universalis Rome which I found to be lacking some of the playability the other Paradox games had. It seems many of the old choices one had are now automated...”

“Well, 18 minutes is kind of a joke to write about, just checking Guild Wars and trying to get Europa Universalis: Rome to work. I love Paradox games and cannot wait to play it more. Also my...”
