DESCRIPTION
Immerse yourself in the story of Enchanted Arms as you explore 75 different environments, and complete multiple objectives and branching missions while listening to Japanese or English dialogue. Atsuma is an Enchanter-in-training with the power to control the angry golems with a mysterious power embedded in his arm. Enchanted Arms features a fighting sequence that is intended to rely on strategy as well as power. The combat plays out on a grid of 12 squares that you and the enemy may move around on. There are no classes in Enchanted Arms, so how you select your skills determines how successful you are in battle.
During the sequence and before your characters make a move, you will select each of your four group members and the attack they will use. When you are done, you can sit back and watch the action take place. Each character draws their power from elements such as fire, wind, water, and earth, and each attack a character performs will be either a skill, EX, or item attack. There are over 100 characters to interact with in the game, and the story includes over an hour of cinematic cut-scenes that can be skipped after the first viewing. Enchanted Arms is also Xbox Live! compatible for one-on-one battles. ~ Gracie Leach, All Game Guide

“One way to describe this game is: "special". Some of the characters are outright annoying and out of context, like "Makato" who very obvious is a gay drama queen in the extreme. The story is actually ok, but you have to get used to a lot of random-encounter battles, which pops up a lot. The do however give you experience and skill points to improve your characters, so in the long run they can be worth it. There is a way you can improve your characters by exchanging prizes won in a casino, and trade for point to buy skill gems (which gives you skill points), but is in my opinion a very long and tedious process.
In short: A very special JRPG, with only story related achievements. ”

“I have to talk about this game. As much as I don't want to, I feel that I owe it to other gamers to help them avoid this at all costs.
I bought this game back in '06 because at the time it was the only JRPG available for the current gen. I knew nothing about it, but the back of the box did a good job of reeling me in with promises of a great story and an epic journey. What I got couldn't have been farther from the truth.
STORY:
The game feels like it's written by 16 year old girls who read too much shonen and spend all their spare time writing sonic fan-fics with 'original characters, do not steal!' The dialogue is very straightforward and more often then not comes off as attempted (but failed) humor. Those rare moments when it tries to be serious, the dialogue seems very out of character for each character, as well as coming off as something you'd get from a teen drama on the WB. The game's main story itself is extremely simple and it's predictability and poor writing is beguiling.
Gameplay:
The game is as linear as a 2D Mario game. You start at point A, and go to point B. There are no diverted roads (aside from optional 1 room dungeons.) From the starting town to the final dungeon is a straight line. Sidequests are rare, and are so simple that sometimes they literally consist of runing around the city talking to NPCs for 2 minutes. There is never any reason to do anything in a dungeon except to get from point A to B as fast as possible, and that is reinforced by the fact that every battle consumes almost impossible to recover action points which you don't want to be out of when you reach the boss. The only thing that saves this game from getting 0 stars is the battle system itself, as it's actually pretty fun. It's like FFT lite. But even this is marred by how easy the game is in general.
Presentation:
The game is very low poly count, as well as having rather poor textures. Some textures are actually just a solid color. The voice acting is atrocious, and often times feels overacted. Also, every character's voice feels like a caricature of what that character should actually sound like. Dialogue also looks terrible, as they decided that instead of having the characters act things out in game, they would talk to each other inside of dialogue boxes that take up almost the whole screen and use the same 10-20 static images per character that convey specific emotions, with no movement whatsoever, and the images change every time a line is spoken. It's pretty aweful to watch.
Overall:
This game is possibly the worst JRPG I've ever played. It's so choc full of mediocrity its not even funny”

“This is a very reccommendable game to fans of turn-based action fighting, fans of fantasy/future setting, and of course, UBISOFT making an Anime Style game. Hell. Yeah. ”

“Worst game I've every played, I couldn't even bear to finish it and that's a first for me. Now I've played some JRPGs but this one is a poor excuse for a game it sucks and blows.”

“Great game. Animation is superb, characterization is excellent, and fights are just a few qualities that make me play this game to the climatic end with the Ice Queen. The casino is a nice place to pick up extras. NPC's don't level up with you.”
