DESCRIPTION

Empire Earth is a strategy game of monumental proportion. Beginning with a timid band of hapless troglodytes, players must lead these people through 500,000 years of civilization and development. 14 historical epochs are the setting for research, construction, diplomacy, and warfare. Players must strengthen their nations by gaining territory, recruiting great leaders, forming (and breaking) alliances, and making use of new technologies. Empire Earth begins in an era before mankind's earliest memories and moves through history to a future which is still beyond our horizon, all in real-time.

Empire Earth was initially conceived and developed by Rick Goodman, who was a lead designer of the critically acclaimed and popularly successful Age of Empires. Expanding on ideas introduced in that title, Empire Earth blends real-time strategy and unit development with strong elements of deep, encompassing, empire building. The game's timeline stretches from the prehistoric discovery of fire to a futuristic 23rd century full of advanced technologies. The game is easily playable right out of the box using pre-generated nations and units, or the player may customize nearly all relevant faction information and statistics to suit personal tastes and style of play. ~ T.J. “The guy wearing the sign is the most powerful unit in my army. He's a prophet. The rest of his sign says, "is near." I deliberatly positioned the camera to block the rest of the sign, though.

The other one is a combat medic and she's wearing shorts. If she saves Zelda, it's from an injury.

There were quite a few other people outside the tanks, but most of them didn't show up in the screenshot. I brought a couple dozen mortars, an engineer, and some regular infantry, but they mostly stayed at the gate.

There were also plenty of aircraft overhead. You might have noticed their mother ship in the background.”

“The time travvelers don't attack or build. They mostly just stand there and defend the time machine. That gives you plenty of time to build up your civilization, defeat or convert your neighbors and prepare for the assault on the time traveller compound. There's plenty of resources on the map and you are allowed to unlock every unit and upgrade in the game, even ones that don't make sense for you to have. If you concentrate on building and keep your army to a minimum for a few minutes, you can quickly reach the same teir as your strongest neighbor.

Just be careful with scouts, fishing boats and aircraft, because one or two of their units will sometimes follow you back to town. I used a few impasse lines here and there, but never for the time travellers. They can follow you anywhere.

During my last playtest, I tried building an airfield a short distance from their compound so I could swarm them with bombers and gound attack fighters. Just a few minutes after the air raid began, my airfield was mobbed by battlemechs. I was trying to test their defenses against airstrikes, but this was not what I had in mind. Even so, while the mechs were destroying the airfield, I had a citizen build a wall around them and isolate them from their base.”

“Since 3D RTS's were just getting rolling, the first one felt really awkward and clunky, coming from AoE2 and its expansions. I just couldn't get into it, when AoE was so much more polished (and fun) ”

“I really liked Age of Mythology and Rise of Nations. They were much nicer than EE. I never played EE2 (there was a 3?) so I cannot attest to those. And yeah, nuking a herd of deer with B-52 bombers is the best.”

@the rest of you, RTS's don't really need the best graphics for them to be fun. They just need a good variety of units and technologies, fun things to do with them and an AI that works. That's why I play the old ones more than the new ones. Some of the latest RTS's suffer in other areas because the developers put too much effort into the graphics.”
