DESCRIPTION
Music-loving DS owners can tap more than their toes with the release of Elite Beat Agents, a stylus-striking rhythm game with a premise that is part Men in Black and part Saturday Night Fever. The Elite Beat Agents are a sharp-dressed group of covert government operatives who solve problems and predicaments by grooving to the beat. Gameplay involves tapping and tracing patterns on the touch screen while the story is revealed in comic book-like panels within the top screen. Twenty songs are included from such artists as Madonna, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Ashlee Simpson, Deep Purple, David Bowie, and Chicago.
Maintain the beat throughout each song and the story will reach its conclusion based on your overall performance. An "elite-o-meter" monitors progress as players try to make the story end on a happy note, but the drama can just as easily take a turn for the worse. The offbeat tasks range from helping a dog find its way home to charming a football player on behalf of a lovesick babysitter. In an unusual twist for the genre, the game includes support for up to four players in a series of competitive challenges. Elite Beat Agents is an update to Japan's Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, featuring new characters, scenarios, and songs designed to appeal to Western audiences. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“Ah, yes--and it is Lamia review time!
I like Elite Beat Agents. Yes, most of the music on here is crap. However, in short, it is the same kind of game as Rockstar, Rock Band and Guitar Hero. However, it is honest here in what you are doing here.
You have a set of songs in this game. The base game play consists of hitting the dots at certain timing to the tune of the music.
The circle will tighten onto these dots. Once the circle gets to being inside the dot, you tap the dot.
The story is you are a bunch of cheerleaders. Somebody feels bad, or down on their luck, you jump to action, to cheer them on--as they get out of the situation. The better you cheer, the better they do.
You essentially are doing a set of side line events, and are watching the results. With the hardest difficulty level being the Elite Beat Divas (who very literally ARE three cheerleaders... like, with pompoms).
This was based on a Japanese game that did not really translate into a NA game, due to more localisation issues than you can shake a stick at. They decided to make a game on a similar concept, but create the Elite Beat Agents and use "popular" songs from North America (allegedly).
Myself, I would love to see more Elite Beat Agents Games. Maybe, something could be done for the DSi or the 3DS that will allow for DLC on a game like this (that means: more songs).
It was a good game concept that did not have enough follow through.
Which I kind of liked a lot better, as it is essentially the same game as Guitar Hero... but a bit more honest. As we do not have essentially a silly guitar controller that is a guitar with five frets and a single string on it. So it really is just a variant of a fishing reel controller--it looks even more retarded IMO. However, this game, is pretty much the same game play... you just are not kidding anybody with that plastic hunk of shit.
I enjoy this game play... I just go into "I am playing guitar" mode when I am holding that controller (totally screwing me over). This does not happen with this fine game.
This gets great marks by me, based just on the sheer honesty in the game play of a musical pattern and rhythm game.”

“This time I'll be reviewing the EBA and their manly rythm game filled with wel... epic manly rythmness :D
It's not the best rythm game on the DS but it is the manliest...
+ Story. Before and during each song you'll be treated to several entertaining comic-like cutscenes filled with humour. The ending you get depends on how well you performed during the song.
+ Graphics. Generally very nice altough in quite a few cases you'll be too busy to notice :D
+ Sound&Songs. A rather general collection that appeals to everyone with very clear sound. It is recommended to use headphones though, even if just to not disturb those around you :D
+ Difficulty. The game ramps up quite nicely and you'll notice yourself becoming better at it.
+ Multiplayer. Co-op, Single or multi cartridge versus, competing against eachother's record,... it's got decent multiplayer to say at the least.
+ Epic! Some moments in this game are simply epic and might even make you shed manly tears of said epicness...
- MY HANDS! I CAN'T FEEL MAH FINGERS NO MORE! At the harder difficulties this game is no laughing matter and your hands will not be pleased with a four hour playing session...”

“Unique and fun rythm game. The orginal Japanese versions (Ouendan and Ouendan 2) I like even better, because it has quirky J-pop songs that create a special atmosphere. I'm completely obsessed by Ouendan at the moment!”

“If three men with questionable hairstyles and over the top action moves can save the world, and do it while looking more bad ass than James Bond combined with Chuck Norris, then I'm sold. There is nary a better game than this on the DS.”
