DESCRIPTION
Two seemingly disparate franchises are combined into a single, surprising release with Dynasty Warriors: Gundam. Developer Omega Force's sword-swinging series may have catapulted from feudal China to the distant future, but the fast-paced, arcade-style action and character-oriented battles against throngs of enemies are still very much intact. Players can choose from a list of popular heroes and villains from the sweeping Gundam universe, strap into a powerful Mobile Suit, and engage in futuristic warfare with the help of some familiar allies. The main "Official" mode features a total of six playable characters, each offering a four-mission storyline set in such locales as Juburo and Odessa. The "Original" mode offers 16 playable characters in various crossover scenarios, while the Versus mode allows two players to battle each other head to head.
Fans of previous Dynasty Warriors installments will recognize the play mechanics even if the setting and characters are completely different. Each sprawling environment is viewed from a third-person perspective behind the selected Mobile Suit. A mini-map notes the position of enemies and strategic objectives in the top right corner of the screen, and combat involves a mix of melee and projectile-based attacks. Each Mobile Suit can be upgraded with an assortment of parts found by defeating enemies, and hidden pilots and additional Mobile Suits can be unlocked in both Original and Official modes by completing specific objectives. Missions involve escorts, timed challenges, defending allies, destroying rival bases, and more. As pilots become more experienced, they will reach higher levels and acquire new skills to help in subsequent battles. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“Well, first off--this game really shines on the grounds of having no pointless press start achievements! YAY!
This game exists as a rather fun arcade type hack'n'slash game. Though the more correct analogy to it, would likely be like River City Ransom.
The game play consists of running around killing several low level nameless baddies. Personally, if I were a general in such an anime series, I would go through my ranks and make certain I have no nameless faceless soldiers. As nameless faceless soldiers appear to act as cannon fodder. I mean, I could understand it, if they used a lot more dolls in this game.
The game consists of several areas that you need to kill X number of nameless drones, sometimes followed by killing some stronger mobile suits. Then standing around until it decides you have grabbed the zone.
Each mission usually has the player going around grabbing these zones. With a few other targets to solve. As well as a few rather nicely defined mission failed items.
Throughout the levels, there is little drop offs that can increase the Mobile Suits or Gundam's capabilities in battle. Though, it really does not indicate right away whether these stay after the mission is over. Somebody who is not familiar with the game may have issues telling whether this is a temporary behaviour.
There are parts that can be gained in various missions that increase your Gundam or other Mobile Suit's capabilities that can be equipped in later missions.
The game does however suffer from "helper issues". That is, I generally have issues figuring out who really needs or wants my help. Yes, there is a radio transmission to indicate the initial request, Though, figuring out their status after that is puzzling. They could have tried something similar to the all range mode levels in Star Fox 64.
Somebody who is not familiar with all the 9001 characters in the Gundam franchise (which seems to be a retelling of the same story over and and over again) may have issues following the statuses on the bottom. That is, if they really care. As well they do not seem to influence the missions that much to ignore. Generally on replays on the mission, it is fairly easy to figure out what they are suggesting.
The action itself is fairly fun--and looks fairly impressive. Generally after having killed a large amount of nameless soldiers, the enemy Gundams come onto the field and the battle feels a lot more--well, like I am playing what is known as one of the few decently animated Japanese cartoon series.
I would suggest you at least try it out. While it starts off a little bit as a struggle, it is gets fairly easy to get the hang of--and you too will be hooked.
If you have a slight aversion to large mechanical engineering impossibilities there are other Dynasty Warriors games that play in a fairly similar manner.”

“Dynasty Warriors: Gundam is well... a dynasty warriors game placed in the Gundam universe where you play as one of the Gundam... Who would've guessed?! /sarcasm
+ The maps are really big with plenty of action everywhere.
+ The Gundam all play differently, some even change depending on the pilot, and are quite nicely balanced.
+ This game might very well be the king of repleyability. It's huge :D
- The maps are really big and you don't really have a good means of transportation. It's like playing DW without the horses to get somewhere fast.
- While the game often challenges you it never becomes unfair... 'cept for when you meet the captains...
All in all I think this is one of my most played 360 games and while I haven't gotten the sequel (yet) I will get it after I get all I want out of this one... which won't happen for a while yet :D”

“Dynasty Warriors with giant robots of destruction. Is there really any better combination? I don't think so. Gameplay gets repetitive, but who doesn't enjoy killing seemingly endless hordes of enemies once in a while?”
