DESCRIPTION
Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure relives the childhood of the series' main character, Goku, as he travels in search of the seven dragon balls. The 2D side scrolling action follows the original manga and anime storylines of Dragon Ball Z, featuring locales such as the home of Yamcha, a kung fu bandit, and the Tenkaichi Budou Kai, where Goku can battle one-on-one against Tenshinhan. The game features three modes of play: "Gocha Battle," "Tanman Battle," and "Sky Battle."
Gocha Battle features platform gameplay in several classic Dragon Ball scenes, where players can battle characters such as Jackie Chun and Inoshikachyou. Clearing "Gocha Battle" unlocks a harder difficulty option. "Tanman Battle" mode features one-on-one arena fighting, and "Sky Battle" mode puts players into the air, to shoot down bad guys with a Kamehameha blast. Multiplayer action is available through a game link connection cable. ~ Gracie Leach, All Game Guide

“First of all: this is Dragon Ball, not Dragon Ball Z. You're playing the Kid Goku storyline (no, not the one after Z: before Z. sheesh! :D) from volume 1 up to the fight with king piccolo (dunno, volume 25 or somthing I think). It's a great game...”
“First of all: this is Dragon Ball, not Dragon Ball Z. You're playing the Kid Goku storyline (no, not the one after Z: before Z. sheesh! :D) from volume 1 up to the fight with king piccolo (dunno, volume 25 or somthing I think). It's a great game that had the bad luck to be released kinda late and not getting the attention it deserves. If you want to compare it to other DB(Z) games I think it's best to look at the "Legacy of Goku" Games altough there are many differences. Short summary: 2D beat em up and a fighter all in one.
+ Very good adaption of the story and it's all in the details. Some examples are that your main weapons are melee hits and your magic pole instead of a abundance of energy attacks, When learning the Kamehameha you'll perfect it troughout the story (it even starts out like the little puff you see in the manga), ...
+ After completing the game you'll unlock Krillin mode (who plays very differently from G, much more air-based and makes the whole game seem fresh) and upon beating this you get access to Extra mode. Special here is that you can find portraits and other items in previously sealed-off rooms. These portraits allow you to play as that character. This means that every enemy, including bosses, is playable... AWESOME!
+ The tournament/ Fight mode is actually very good, much better than Supersonic warriors and even some of the console versions! It comes down to first wearing down your opponent's defense in order to create an opening for a good combo. Good stuff and can be rather hard to master. All characters (6-8 I think in this mode) also have unique signature moves and fighting styles. Very well done and nicely balanced.
- While playing with all these characters is fun it does mean there are plenty of useless ones in there and some OP. The series did always have problems with balance :D
- There are no command lists for Tournament mode and the instruction manuel only lists a few moves. It's kinda frustrating knowing you could do some really nice moves but don't know how. (and for once the internet doesn't provide the answers either! :D)”
