Created by the development team behind such critically acclaimed role-playing games as Baldur's Gate, Mass Effect, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age: Origins is an original fantasy RPG featuring real-time combat and content spanning an estimated 80 hours in length. Your custom-created hero is one of the few remaining members of the elite Grey Wardens, an ancient order that has sworn to protect the land and its citizens. The news is dire: a corrupted dragon is leading a powerful army of darkspawn to conquer the surrounding territories. In your quest to slay the dragon and cleanse the tainted lands, you'll battle numerous creatures, make critical decisions, and explore dozens of locales.
Shape your hero's personality by initially choosing one of six origin stories, which influences your character's background and starting area. Recruit others to fight alongside you, engage in branching conversations, and deal with such issues as murder, jealousy, love, politics, and even genocide. “The graphics on the second one were much superior than the first, but the first one had a better story... I prefer a game with a strong story and moderate graphics, than the other way round, at least in RPGs! Not to mention the whole "mage uprising" didn't fit storywise...”

“I believe Orsino exaggerated by resorting to blood magic. On all three chapters, it showed both how mages were oppressed by the templars and why blood mages were reviled. In the end, by becoming that huge undead behemoth, Orsino lost his point, no matter how desperate he was...

“@Qaldim I came SO close I came to running Anders through, and I quite agree, I will see him pay for what he did next time. I sided with the mages to honor Bethany's memory (I lost her during the deep roads expedition ::sadness::) because I thought the templars were going too far in their persecutions. She was the perfect example of why their policies were overly tyrannical. On the flip side, Anders was the reason why I didn't feel completely at ease with that decision as he was the perfect example of why mages needed some form of control. I'm actually more in favor of a mage's conclave (similiar to the one used in Dragonlance) as there were plenty of examples of wise mages to lead them. Incidently, I actually played DA2 FIRST, and I enjoyed it enough to go back and get the DAO-UE. Although I really wish they hadn't taken the gore out of the second one >< (And am I the ONLY one that though Varric was the BEST character of all of them? I can't go ANYWHERE without him)”

Frankly, when Anders blew it up and the mages started getting all pain in the ass, I simply had to go "Well Ima purge you" of couse I saved anyone who came along (Cullen ftw for helping) I mean every bloody mage you come across turned to blood magic, you know, the thing you had to learn from demons?
I ran Anders through for blowing up the bloody tower full of innocents, even snarky Hawke doesn't tolerate that shit. Merril was sad and that made me kinda sad though I did Rivalmance her.
I liked the fact that they expanded on Isabella and Merril from the first, was fun. Though I did miss Shale and Lelianna.
And yes Varric was the best companion more so with snarky hawke xD I think I took Varric, Aveline and Bethany at the start then started taking the previous and swapped out Bethany for Merril.

“I thought Varric was a riot. Merril's niavete was amusing, albeit grating at times. I actually rather enjoyed the banter between Alistair and Morrigan, I just wish I had had more room in my party for Shale lol. Awakenings was sort of funny for me though. I ended up putting Oghren on my A squad because he was the most familiar to me, despite the fact that I never used him in Origins. It made me feel like me and him were the "grizzled veterans leading the children around". I dragged Anders' whiny butt around because I kicked Velana's witchy arse to the curb. Could not STAND her. Funny story: Alistair convinced me to let him be the one to slay the Archdemon. So imagine my surprise when he greets me at the gates of Warden Keep in Awakenings lol. Continuity? Uh uh!”

“Aye, DAA was rife with bugs. I had to dl a user made patch to be able to do Sigrun's friendship quest. The only one I couldn't do was Oghren's because I ended up not having enough friendship items for him when I transferred to awakenings. I was short by a really small amount too. My A squad was me and Og as the beefsticks (i made him the brick wall to replace alistair so I could keep swinging my Starfang / Vigilance) Sigrun to replace Leliana, Anders to replace Wynne / Morrigan (at least until the end, I replaced him with Velana for Blood Wound). I sort of regret not being able to use Og in Origns. I really liked him in Awakenings. Now I can't play Bulletstorm without thinking my character is a red haired dorf.”

“Good old DAO team, I never got the chance to buy Awakening for 360. :( My Origins team was Alistair as tank, Leliana as dps, Wynne for healing and I was an elf mage dps. Oghren was very fun even if he never made it on the team except for the quest to find his wife. I tried to be the "good and righteous" Warden, so the other characters could hardly fit in my group.
I agree with Mishy that Mage Tower and Deep Roads were annoying. I was mostly bored of the Fade part and well... Deep Roads were big and intimidating for an alienage elf like me!
I guess people should play DA2 first and then DAO+A, if they don't mind the graphics. I played DAO first, just to import my ending, but I can't say it really mattered, unless I missed something. :-S”

“DA3 TBA and it'll be followers can equip armour and it'll change their appearence to a degree so if I give say a templar companion heavy plate armour, his look will change to a certain style.

“I liked the graphics in DA2 as well. Until they took away the blood that is. Excessive people complained. Too many exploding bodies is ruining the experience for me, they whined. So now I'm left with "Bowling with Fireballs" and "Rock em Sock em Swordfights". Not even so much as a slider to appease the weak kneed. I preordered the game after playing the demo. The bloodletting was one of the major selling points for me. The other of course.. was Flemeth m wielding a weapon whos size dwarfs my target, and lay into it / them with full force, I would expect nothing LESS then to be showered with various peices of anatomy. If I am hurling a giant ball of flaming force at an opponent, with the intent of causing as much damage as possible, you bet your sweet bippy I expect to see gouts of blood and flying appendages. It was very satisfying to turn hordes of darkspawn into fried, flash frozen, electrified, or plain sushi kibble. I sort of lost interest in the game after watching the combat became a rather bland and pedestrian affair.”

“I think it was more that your basic attack with a bow or dagger could easily just gib enemies into many small chunks when realistically, that would never happen. Of course fireballs and whatnot probably would gib people.

“Well, I played a mage, so all I cared for was the weapon statistics, nothing more. Even though I wanted to play a Blood Mage in DA2, I switched to Force, because it was less "item specific" specialization in general. :(”

“you need to get the dwarven belt early on, do some sides in Denerim, then head over to Orzamar, do some sides there, save up about 40 or so gold, make sure you have a high speech rating, then go to the Dust Quarter.
A guy will be there wanting you to ship some illegal lyrium to the Mage's Tower. Talk him down from his initial 50 gold to 40 to purchase the shipment (hence you need a high speech rating), travel to the mage's tower, head to a closet that is...I think it's on the second floor? A mage on the inside will offer to take it. This is where you can extort him for a lot of money (and a dagger).
Also, even if your main character isn't a thief, put at least one talent into your "stealing" skill. There will be a guy in Denerim later on that will give you jobs to break in and steal from houses or people. That can net you some serious coin once you sell your ill gotten gains to the various vendors.
Also, it helps to have a really good healer in your party (Preferred is Wynne but if you can want Morrigan to do it just spend some talents into the Healing school). That way you're not having to spend so much money on healing potions and the like.
But for the most part do as many sides as you can before taking on the vital missions. That way you can save up and earn as much gold as you can for the good stuff later on. ”

Money never was an issue once you start doing the side quests, just a bit on the begining... :)

FYI Anything I add to this thread will be SPOILERS!!!
Now ME3 for the most part was fun. I was a long for the ride all the way up to where you where running to that light to get back onto the Citadel. Then you get screwed up and then the game turns into that slow pace shootout of a MW. Then the conversation with the kid who is the true all mighty in the game and then I'm given 3 things to pick from. I was very disappointed how they ended it.
Now it's a Sci-fi game so I had a feeling it was going to end with society reverting back to some primal thing. Most books in Sci-fi that have humanity meeting....well god or become to powerful usually end up going back to being cavemen.
But what really made me mad was after the credits you have that stargazer and kid talking about "The Shepard" and I was like.....WHAT! NO GOD DAMMIT!!
I was hoping ME would of been different. I was hoping for an epic battle and a epic group hug of the masses.....at least for my Paragon Ending. I took all that time to build up this fleet and to have this epic battle only to boil everything down to 3 choices. I don't even get to fight Harbinger or really take on the more feared Reapers in the game.

“Yeah lots of people jumped on that. Which is crazy! Javik had a massive role in that game. To not have him kills off a ton conversations and of stuff. I don't like the path the game industry is going with DLC. The down fall is most gamers are just to dumb not to buy it. Even I spent $80 on a game that isn't built very well. “For me, I feel like I was shorted. They could still have The Shepard sacrifice themselves, or live, or take over the reapers, or even have Earth die. Just like the way the game does now. “Well... An "iconic" trilogy that is "the best series this generations of games has to offer" is not going to be played by me due to the fact that they did not go the extra mile and make the whole series accessible to my preferences.
I'm the kind of person that WILL purchase an entire series (even after the first) if new iterations look impressive to me. I bought both Dead Space 1 and 2 after seeing how amazing the second one looked. I bought metal gear 2 even though I had to purchase 1 for my original playstation (way after the fact) to play it... The list goes on, so I won't bore you guys...
In any case, if this game is the "standard" for "best trilogy of this generation" and my friend Gary says "It makes me so sad you're missing out on such an epic series" then why is it that even though the second and third installment are on playstation the first one is on lock down?

This isn't Sony, this isn't Microsoft, this isn't SuckerPunch or Santa Monica studios, this isn't Epic Games, or Nintendo, this isn't a company exclusive to one console and even IF Mass Effect 1 was an exclusive title - I've seen exclusives jump to PS3 after the huge fan lust dissipates; Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, Star Ocean 4, hell even Tales of Vesperia has plans to come on over to Playstation.
I'm willing to give them my money, but I want the whole fucking experience.”

The only real benefit from playing ME1 is the exprience of weirdness, more so with ME2 and 3 out as they easily outclass the original (at least for me) in the areas that were irritating.
The choices can be done from a free DLC for PS3 anyway (Which 360 and PC owners had to buy for whatever reason)

I'm trying to get back in touch with the same guy that I talked to in my latest blog post and see if he has anything else to say on what's up with the recent news coming out of BioWare. Which isn't good, starting out, since they posted, then hastily yanked a post stating that they weren't considering any kind of ending rewrite, only to have a senior member of Bio/EA come out and say that, for all intents and purposes, they have no comment other to say that they haven't ruled it out.
I sincerely feel for the poor bastards that have to wade through the crowd that's going to be waiting for them, and rightfully demanding some kind of concrete answers, at PAX East this April 6.

I've always admired him but it is hard to take anything a reviewer says at face value ever.
I find if you can find a few reviewers out there that you respect, then they agree on a game, and the public rates it above average, then it's a safe bet you may like it.”

“@Roxas-UrBoxas There used to be this reviewer that worked for the magazine PSM who had a taste in games that was very similar to mine. I can't remember his name... Anyway, I used to look for his reviews first when I was a subscriber to the magazine. If he rated a game highly, I knew I would probably enjoy it.”

“I have the utmost respect for Bioware and the ME series, and I fully understand that balancing artistic goals vs fan expectations in an ending is an extremely daunting task.
Even so, I'd prefer an amazing game with a lousy ending over 40 hours of lousy gameplay with a killer ending.

What happens with ME3 is that the ending invalidates most, if not all of, the decisions/choices/alignment stances you've taken throughout ME, ME2, and ultimately ME3.
As the end to a TRILOGY of games, it should give you a sense of closure for the current status quo. It doesn't. It leaves way too many threads out there to be what I consider even remotely satisfying on any level.
If they cared, which I hope they still do, I wouldn't have gone into "bunker mode" like they're doing right now. Addressing the matters at hand in a quick and timely manner would've helped. But they haven't. Not yet. I think they will at PAX East, but in the meantime it's just damaging their reputation (and, ultimately their profits) to the point that it looks almost irreparable to the core base that made the ME series as critically acclaimed as it has been up to this point.
Casey Hudson said in an interview that we, the players, are "co-creators" in the series. That our decisions lead to endings that are beyond A, B, C decisions and that they'll get appropriate closure to the storyline.
Now look at the end results, the massive protests, the facebook, twitter, etc etc movements and statements being made that reflect the very fact that the ending to the story flies in the face against what we've been told.
