DESCRIPTION

After years of celebrating rock & roll culture and making gamers feel like guitar gods, Activision turns its attention to hip-hop pioneers like Kool Herc and Grand Wizard Theodore by offering players more than 80 original mixes to blend, juggle, and scratch in DJ Hero. Featuring a variation of the "note highway" mechanic popularized by Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and incorporating a turntable-and-mixer peripheral controller, DJ Hero finds gamers manipulating a crossfader and effects knob with one hand, while using the other hand to press three gameplay buttons located atop a fully rotatable faux record. Instead of increasing difficulty by making players account for more buttons, DJ Hero begins to incorporate more scratching and crossfader movement in an attempt to foster a more authentic feel.

Developer FreeStyleGames worked closely with world-renowned artists DJ Shadow, DJ Z-Trip, DJ AM, and Cut Chemist to create a realistic experience, and all four DJs contributed original mixes and mash-ups. DJ Hero also features DJ Jazzy Jeff and Grandmaster Flash as playable characters, but the game does not mine its track list solely from the world of hip-hop, featuring portions of more than 100 individual songs from artists such as Marvin Gaye, Beck, Nirvana, Daft Punk, and Tears for Fears. The game takes players to a variety of locations designed to mimic real-life party hotspots, and gamers looking for multiplayer action can hook up multiple controllers for competitive "DJ vs. DJ" mode, or the co-operative "DJ + DJ" and "DJ + Guitar" modes. ~ Christopher Brown, All Game Guide

“Mmmm... Dead Space is delicious... I never owned, just had a rental I keeped for a very long time... I should buy it.

I also prefer the single player games. I'm a little old school in that sense. I dabble in online play, but I love being told a story that's nice and linear. Online is matching wits, but sometimes I just like to be told what to do.

Single player games, no matter how hard they get, are always possible. Online means you just may find someone who is infinitely better than you in every way and it is impossible. Hope always runs deep... I dunno... Single player for the win.”

“@maggiefiasco agreed, Dead Space was quite good. It's one of those games that gets you looking around the corner even though you're looking at a screen. Turn the lights off and the sound up and it will get you into the game. After a while the monsters get kind of easy and predictable but the game is fun.”

“FFXIV will be on PC and PS3 (also, it's PS3 exclusive.) XboX is getting FFXIII but sadly, they have no confirmation on if XboX is getting the prequel and sequel.

Anyone know for sure? I'm pretty sure I heard ps3 exclusive, so let's hope any XboX user that plays XIII doesn't get too hooked and want more cause it's going to be PS3 only so far...

“Doubtful you will, it's going to be like a lottery ya know. Ya, I'm not down with another MMO FF... sigh... single player is becoming a thing of the past... I'm becoming a dinosaur... Luckily FFXIII is going to be in 3 installments.

P.S.: FFVIII on PC was the only way to go, built in Pocket Station, and the music didn't go into the repeat cycle, it played it all from intro to outro and repeated. Although the MIDI quality sometimes got me down... An example of what I'm talking about would be the song when you fly the ragnarok around, the PC version played it all, the PS version only played the full song when you obtained it... then cut off the intro to the song for the rest of the game every time you flew around.

I know... I'm a nerd... For knowing the slight differences...”

“I never got the chance to play the FFs for PC :(, and its not that I don't like the MMO FF games, its just that XII was horrigbly unfair to US players, and those arn't Final Fantasy games in my eyes, I will ALWAYS be a single-player gamer first and foremost, every great once in awhile I do co-op, preferable with a noob so I can mentor them and help them become better gamers, but I stopped playing online vs. when I left halo 2. I'm not a patient or nice enough person to respect everyone who plays so I opt not to. Now I too feel old, *runs crying to the SNES*”

“Back on the topic of Bayonetta, I definitely find it more entertaining than DMC4, but is it just me or are a lot of the weapons very samey? The combos all seem very similar for a lot of the weapons, such as the various guns and claws, and it seems no matter which weapon you have equipped the wicked weave combos are all the same.

I like the game a lot, but I'm not sure it tops DMC3 with it's 5 unique weapons that came with their own movesets, upgradeable abilities and special skills such as Swordmaster combos, with the guns also being quite varied.”

“Sorry to double post, but to reinforce what I said, I mean with DMC3, playing with Rebellion + E&I in the Trickster style was a completely different experience to playing with Cerberus and Artemis in the Swordmaster style. I'm sort of feeling that Bayonetta's lacking anything as varied as this, yet I've not heard anyone else say they felt the same.. so I wonder if I'm missing something?”

“I have not had the chance to play Bayonetta as of yet, but DMC3 is THE standard action games should be based set to, having said that, the bar is extremely high basing that standard on a game with 4 styles that alter you experience so and another playable character that is unique.”

“Yeah, DMC3 is my definite favourite, I just haven't seen another game give so much in terms of combat variation, whilst still being very solid and well thought out. Sadly the game's been played to pieces by me (I'm talking hundreds of hours, having done pretty much everything physically possible), and it's regrettably beginning to feel dated in graphics... Bayonetta has impressed me while DMC4 disappointed me, but I'm not sure if I'll ever find another game that will take up the mantle in my eyes...”

“DMC4 was good for the first run (I beat the game on release day), but after that it just lacked any replay value whatsoever. Unlike in DMC3 when beating the game yielded a ton of different costumes (some of which game you special effects), and had plenty of styles and weapons that you couldn't possibly get full use of in a single playthrough, DMC gave me nothing but "Hard mode is now unlocked". That was one of the most disappointing days of my gaming life.. and the whole character switchover just meant a broken flow of gameplay (having to switch to a "fresh" character for a few missions), and was purely recycled areas and bosses.

DMC4 just failed to live up to its predecessor in my eyes. The controls and graphics were crisp and perfectly done, it just lacked so much content. Beating DMC3 on Dante Must Die! was one of my proudest moments, I did it in DMC4 and I barely even remember doing it :/ It would've been nice if you could at least unlock both characters for use in any mission once the game was complete.

But yeah, thats pretty much my two cents but I've had this rant countless times in various places, always gets me a bit riled since DMC4 was probably my biggest disappointment in my entire gaming history - maybe I was just foolish to believe they could match or beat DMC3.”

“@LeonBelmontX I think Bayonetta is charming in it's combat, the weaponry all plays the same which means there is less of a learning curve, and the wicked weaves all do stay the same. They only offer slight tweaks in the weaponry... Like the sword can be charged and can cut things in half, the claws can be switched between two different elements... Fire which is slower and slightly stronger, and lightning which is faster and slightly weaker. Use both of them to your best and you can become a scary force.

The combat really shines for me with the dodging and the witch time. DMC offers a healthy dose of twitch combat... But not on the same scale as the work that went into this combat system. I mean, you have to pay attention to many things at once while you're playing AND the backgrounds are just so fantastic that I find myself getting lost in them. Bayonetta deserves some mad respect, and I'm glad the DMC creator took a break from DMC.

Now with the positive feedback that he got from Bayonetta, imagine how much work and design will go into the next DMC. Let's face it, I kinda feel like they cut corners and ripped us off on the 4th installment.”
