Descent II, a single-player, underground space shooter and sequel to Descent, offers both single-player missions and a cooperative multiplayer mode over the Internet for up to eight players. Having rid the mines of alien robots in Descent and returned to the space station for just rewards, the corporation surprises you by invoking a sneaky 72-hour clause in your contract. Seems as if you must now embark on a search and destroy mission to the Zeta Aquilae system to strike at the very source of the enemy robots. To avoid jail and loss of earnings, you grudgingly accept.
Descent II offers new weapons and tools to blast the enemy and clear the way to the Alien Robot Stronghold as you try to cleanse the universe of the alien menace. Along the way, you're joined by your guide-bot, which scouts ahead to help you find enemies, orbs and other items. Enemies employ deadly weaponry, and thief-bots try to steal your weapons and power-ups. Multiplayer options include a real-time camera that allows you to look through your partners' eyes or the use of surveillance cameras in the mines.
Both the gamepad and joystick can be custom tailored to personal preferences, and small, non-explosive darts open doors as you blast your way through the alien mines. Descent II offers 30 levels in six different world environments of fire, ice and the alien base. Ten new weapons include the helix and gauss cannons for use against 30 new robot enemies. ~ Nick Woods, All Game Guide
