DESCRIPTION
No stranger to walking corpses, Capcom unearths another zombie-themed franchise with Dead Rising on Xbox 360. Players take command of a forceful photographer named Frank West, who believes he is on the verge of a breakthrough story at a remote suburban town called Willamette. Yet this is no ordinary visit. West soon learns that the unfriendly locals aren䀙t just wary of the media — they䀙re hungry for flesh. Players must somehow find a way past hordes of zombies lining the aisles of the one place thought by West to be safe: a shopping mall. He was obviously wrong, but it䀙s up to players to keep him from being dead wrong.
Unlike the carefully scripted games in the Resident Evil series, Dead Rising features a more open-ended, action-oriented design where players can freely explore the various mall stores to use whatever tools, weapons, or items they find, from frying pans and umbrellas to lawn mowers and bowling balls. Time keeps ticking away as players search for potential survivors as well as a way out, with the zombies growing stronger as the sun goes down and certain events only occurring at specific intervals. West will be able to replenish lost health by finding vending machines or the food court, and he can also snap pictures of the chaos and mayhem to unlock different bonuses. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“I love a good zombie game. This one's not perfect, but it's still gratuitous amounts of fun in a purposely cliche' zombie-survival location.
What I liked:
- Especially for the time: the immense numbers of zombies on-screen, and the way that hundreds of them shuffle and pile over eachother to reach that one tasty survivor.
- Graphically pleasing - whilst corpses especially were toned down to allow the game to continue running smoothly whilst you slaughtered, there's nothing to really pick on here. The zombies themselves - despite their large numbers - are very diverse in appearance.
- Use anything as a weapon - with an entire shopping mall at your fingertips, you can practically pick up almost every single object in the game to use as a weapon. This includes ridiculous things like nerf guns and music CDs; whilst they may have very little actual combat effectiveness, it's great to have the option anyway.
- Sandbox nature of the game is great - you can choose to further the main campaign if you wish, or you can do as you like.
- Pretty cool survivor system - you can go around and rescue other survivors to take back to your safehouse. Each has their own (often humerous) backstory and circumstances.
What I didn't like:
- Survivor AI can be incredibly frustrating most of the time. You have to babysit them every step of the way, and general AI pathfinding and behaviour is buggy and inconsistent.
- Probably a non-issue nowadays, but the in-game text - which plays a pretty important part in the gameplay - is an unreadable blur on standard-definition TVs.
- A rather annoying in-game walkie-talkie which frequently rings to tell you things you don't care for in the slightest. No option to switch this feature off.”

“Dead Rising offers a new experience to the flooded genre of zombie slaying. Taking a humorous approach to the zombie apocalypse, Dead Rising allows the player to follow a well scripted story or wander the extensive environment of a middle America mall. With countless weapons at your disposal, Dead Rising gives the player the ability to take on zombies in a not so serious manner. Want to throw a bowling ball at them? Hit them with a shopping cart? Run one over with a lawnmower?!? Yes the options are endless. I would highly recommend this game for a good laugh and a welcome addition to any zombie fans collection.”

“Dead Rising is a game that will completely piss you off to no end. You Play as Frank West, Photojournalist, who at times is a crossdresser as well. Anyways, you get a scoop from an unknown source that something big is happening in a back water town. You go there and well, Let's just say i hope you tolerate pain well. So after being dropped off in the Mall by your nameless escort, Shit hits the fan right away. You head into the main plaza and find the front door heavily barricaded which behind it you spot Several thousand Infected*cough* did i say infected? Sorry I meant ZOMBIES. Yeah thats right, real fucking gonna eat your brains and ruin your day ZOMBIES.
Anyways some old lady lets the Zombies in, because apparently her Dog Madonna found a way to get past this extremely barricaded set of glass doors. Afterwords you team up with the Department of Homeland Security to figure out why the Hell there are ZOMBIES in this mall. This game also goes into the psychological factors of a zombie apocalypse. Crazed Psychopaths, (that will kill you and set you back an entire day because you forgot to fucking save) and the relationship of Frank West and all of the people he meets in the mall. So from the first few hours of game play after you arrive, you just can't wait to get the hell out of this ZOMBIE ridden mall. Unfortunately you have to wait Three days to get rescued. Also, in order to actually Figure out the storyline, you have a time crunch. Events only last for so long and you have to become not Only Frank West Photojournalist Cross dresser, but the best god damn secretary in the world.
The best part of this game is that EVERYTHING in the mall is a Weapon. You get to spend hours finding new and creative ways to kill off the ever re spawning population of Zombies in this game. The worst? Probably trying to rescue survivors. Periodically (every five minutes to be exact) Otis, the janitor, will call you and bitch about something, then remember he found a survivor. So as you wait for your main mission to become active you head off to become a hero.
Normally armed with nothing more than your fists you start swearing as loud as you can in an attempt to rescue survivors. Sometimes the survivors are just holed up somewhere praying the zombies wont eat them, or sometimes a psychopath has taken them to do.... psychopath things... Friendly Fire is a factor here as well. You can hit them, and they can hit you. They also are the most retarded AI you'll ever meet. Most of them have some kind of style in order to have them come with you. Wether its learning Japanese or punching them in the face, The survivors will slow you down, as you could easily have run past that horde, theyre off looking in the gift shop and a ZOMBIE is holding their hands. Apparently they never learned to mash down all the buttons......
So after you have escorted your Survivor (or group of survivors) through the entire god damn mall full of zombies, because there is only one safe room, you then realize you have thirty minutes to get to the actual plot. Normally ending up in you having to go back a day because you forgot to save. *Thumbs up*
