In Darkwood, you become a young man named Derek who wants to join the city guard, not just as a guardsman, but as the Captain of the Guard, a very lucrative position. Your father also tried to enter the guard and was killed, but you vow to do better.

With all the money you can scoop up, you go to the arena where you pay to fight monsters. If you win your combat, you get paid a certain amount of money, with which you can spend time at the inn, healing your wounds, buying better armor and weapons, or buying magic items to heal you or hurt your enemies.
