DESCRIPTION
Dark Sector is a futuristic shooter starring a character infected by a biological virus, imbuing him with mysterious powers. Black-ops soldier Hayden Tenno contracted the disease while on a covert mission to the fictitious Eastern European country of Lasria. Hayden's left arm has since mutated into something not quite human. Attached to this abnormal appendage is a three-blade glaive that can be charged and thrown at enemies or objects like a boomerang. Stunned enemies can then be finished off with well-aimed gunshots, or sliced open by using the glaive as a melee weapon. As Hayden struggles to find a way out of his predicament, the virus will gradually take over his body, granting him new abilities along the way. The action in Dark Sector is viewed from a third-person perspective set behind the lead protagonist's shoulder, with the screen free from heads-up displays in an attempt to draw players closer into the gritty, violent world. Xbox Live support is also included for ten-player online competition. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

“Dark Sector is a third-person shooter-ish game comparative to more action oriented survival horror games. It's also fairly old and from what I can tell fairly unknown but is a decent enough game. It has been gathering dust in my gaming drawers for quite some time...God knows what price I paid but it wasn't much, definitely a discount bin purchase.
SPOILER FREE STORY:
You are a government agent. You get infected by a virus that (despite turning nearly everyone else into mindless monsters) gives you a cool looking arm and a razor sharp throwing glaive. You continue on your mission to kill the man who infected you and plans to use the virus for evil...Hmm..Delete the part about being infected and I've just written the plot for every Resident Evil game in the past few years...
GAMEPLAY:
Shooting - Gets the job done. A couple different weapons though you can only carry two at a time. Some basic customizations like extended clips, firepower +, and enfereon (sp?) shells which poison infected. I loaded those bad boys into a revolver and did quite well though ammo for the gun was limited.
Glaive..ing - A medium range weapon that doesn't need ammo. Later on you can infuse it with fire, electricity and ice by throwing it into those elements (torches, electrical panels, canisters of..cold shit.). Early on you get the ability to control the glaive in flight which is nice, giving you a first row seat as you slice off an enemies head or legs. The glaive has no lock on so controlling it does take some skill. You can perform a more powerful throw by holding down the button and releasing it exactly when the cross-hair changes color. This is tough at first but gets easier except when you're surrounded.
Melee - Blows. Don't use it. Dodge the enemy until you can shoot or glaive 'em.
There are some basic puzzle elements such as using your elemental fused glaive to burn paths, charge doors or put out fires.
This game is definitely a cover shooter and does this well for the most part. On occasion you might suction cup your ass to cover when you meant to dodge but for the most part it's a simple affair. I played on normal and being outside cover against ranged foes usually ended in death.
Enemies vary from the infected to start out using melee weapons before upgrading to range and cloaked attacks and the human soldiers who rely primarily on guns and mechanized infantry that can take a good deal of punishment. Its trial and error to figure out what works best against a particular foe.
I've fought two bosses so far and they were varied enough. Kind of didn't know what to do with the first boss but figured it out. Wasn't too difficult to accomplish without dying.
GRAPHICS:
Pretty enough though it suffers from drab colors. Didn't really notice any errors but I've been pretty much speed-running it.
FINAL WORD:
If you find it for a discounted price and like the genre get it. The story is nothing special but the monsters are cool, the combat fun if a bit tedious and slicing a man's jugular is always satisfying.”

“Personally, im not a horror fan, so I ended up taking it back, but in general, it was fun. though, a bit to much "jump scares" for me.”

“Joined a boosting session over at TA. Wasn't there for most of the session, had to leave because a temp crown broke off, and the dentist wanted to see me right away. Funny thing is, it just broke...”

“Gameplay is nice, always brisk. I loved the boss battles. The story is rather vague at times, but it doesn't really add or take away from the game experience, so it's all good.”

Most reviews claim that the game sucks! But they don't have a good taste in video games! Now I won't say that this game is "flawless", but I will say that it is NEAR GODLY!
The fast that you start off as a Special Operations Soldier really gets me going. And then you get captured by an "Insane" doctor who interprets and uses the new virus that he found(some argue that he created it, but I don't care). He turns your right arm into a "viral contamination" which supposedly is going to infect your whole body. So you have to hunt him down and kill him (I guess). So PLEASE give this NEAR GOD-LIKE game a chance, it will thank you dearly.
Also, It is made by Epic Games, so it's got a kind of Gears of War feel to it! :)”
