DESCRIPTION
Nippon Ichi Software's Cross Edge is a console-style RPG with a fan-fantasy character selection that crosses the lines of previous series and publishers. Playable characters hail from several earlier popular Japanese role-playing games and series, including Atelier Marie, Mana-Khemia 2, Darkstalkers, Ar Tonelico, Disgaea, and others. Cross Edge plays out in classically styled, turn-based combat, with grid-lined battlefield mechanics and plenty of special powers.
Players take control of the game's heroes, original characters York Neely and Miko Aiba, two young adults who have somehow lost their place in time and space. The world they are now in is created from souls taken from other worlds. Unlike most, the characters exist in this new world in body as well as in soul, allowing them to interact and change their fate. Unless the stolen souls are returned to their worlds of origin, those worlds will slowly fade away into nothingness. Controlling York and Miko and their allies, players must defeat adversaries and help a strange girl named May to return the souls to their home worlds.
Players can choose from different clothing and equipment options, to give characters different statistics, and a dress-up side-game changes the appearance of female characters in cut-scenes, as well. Both English and Japanese voice-overs are available. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

“I don't think I'm really made for tactics games. All I know is half the time in combat I can't use my abilities because they're greyed out. I know red means I don't have enough action points... but...”

Some people may be turned off by the initial difficulty and learning curve, but the game pays off in spades.”

“A fun NIS game that uses multiple characters from other games. It has very challenging gameplay, nice mixture of 2D and 3D graphics, music fits the game. A very large learning curve since the game tutorials and instruction book fail at helping.”
