DESCRIPTION
Command & Conquer: Renegade is a 3D shooter that takes place in a setting that is familiar to many gamers. The alternate-history world of the GDI and the Brotherhood of Nod is known to many from the hugely successful series of Command & Conquer real-time strategy games. Westwood Studios takes a different approach in Command & Conquer: Renegade.
Players take on the role of Nick Parker, a.k.a. Havoc, an elite commando from the very first Command & Conquer title. The game features the ability to choose a first- or third-person view of the action. Players guide Havoc through the adventure using a combination of clever stealth and raw firepower. Recon bikes, tanks, and even aircraft become available along the way. Online players can work together to solve levels or go head-to head in deathmatch play. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

“Command & Conquer: Renegade was a welcome addition and change of flavor in the C&C universe. Playing as Havoc, a special operations commando, players traverse a series of NOD installations on the ground. Played as a FPS rather than a RTS Renegade gives gamers a new look into the world instead of a top down commander's perspective. This is a decent FPS and the atmosphere is familiar to C&C fans. As a FPS it is nothing spectacular for single player purposes. I honestly can't remember the events in the storyline but that could be due to the age of the game. The multiplayer mode is much more entertaining as you control various classes and vehicles to destroy and enemy base. Whether you utilize rush tactics, focus on defense, or sneak in undetected, this game has more to offer against human opponents.
With a series of maps to play on, it is obvious that they are not all equal and balance is certainly a concern as the GDI and NOD have different capabilities. Despite this minor issue which can be overcome with solid teamwork, the multiplayer is a blast. Few games can make the balance between offensive and defensive tactics as critical as Renegades multiplayer. Overall recommendation is to play this one for the multiplayer...unfortunately it has been some time since release so the servers (if available) may be graveyards. ”

“I've had an on-off relationship with first person shooters, and Renegade was one of the first FPS's that I ever played. I chose this one because I was and remain a devotee of the Command & Conquer franchise. What I got was functional, but pretty stale.
The story needs no mention at all, since it's utterly forgettable and cut-and-paste. Typical military hard-assedness with the obligatory debate over the purpose of chain of command.
The action is fun, with emphasis on the whole "command" part of the franchise name. If you've played any of the early Tiberium games, it's very easy to feel like a unit on the battlefield being ordered around by an omniscient commander in the sky. I really liked this idea, and I'm glad that it has since been expanded on with games such as the new Battlefield games and independent ones like Savage.
Renegade is pretty typical as far as FPS's go, but for a RTS fan, it might be a little bit more interesting, if only ironically.”

“An extremely enjoyable shooter set in the Command & Conquer universe. If you enjoy C&C but also like FPS titles, this game is a must-have. The community is not as strong as it was on release, but it's still great fun to play online.”
