DESCRIPTION
Columns is a puzzle game similar to Tetris, but instead of connecting falling blocks, you manipulate falling columns of rainbow-colored items such as jewels, hearts, and stars. These columns, which consist of three items each, fall one after another. When you arrange three or more items of the same color vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, they disappear from the screen. When you have made 300 items disappear, a Magic Column appears. Whatever color this special column lands on, all the items of that color disappear, regardless of the shape. The object of Columns is to keep the game going as long as possible by keeping the screen as clear as possible. If the columns pile all the way to the top of the play field, the game is over. In addition to the normal mode of play, you can try the Flash game. In the Flash game, you are timed on how fast you can make the flashing item vanish. In both the Flash and original modes, you can play the split-screen Versus Mode if you or your gaming partner has another Game Gear, another copy of the game, and a Gear-to-Gear Cable. In this two-player action, the better you play, the harder the game gets for your friend and vice versa. For example: When you make five items disappear, it adds two horizontal blocks to your opponent's screen. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
