The Alexandria is an exclusive resort that deals with the virtual realm. Those who can afford to attend are treated to lavish virtual experiences that offer what seems to be realistic pleasure. There is something amiss at the resort, however. Patrons have been murdered and the unknown assailant is planning to kill a little more.
Meanwhile, Sam Frost has been confined to the Metacorp Prison for some time. Addicted to the virtual world, he is serving time for crimes committed in the faux realm. Addicts are vulnerable to blackouts and can have trouble differentiating between the real and virtual worlds. Because of his virtual prowess, Frost has been known to fix problems in various programs.
Executive Johnson has contacted the criminal and requested his immediate release. Since the Alexandria is one of his utmost priorities, the murders must be halted. Since he's well versed in the virtual world, Sam Frost has been chosen to enter the exclusive resort, receive information and prevent the killer from harming more patrons.
Music Television presents Club Dead, a first-person interactive movie that contains over 90 minutes of full-motion-video sequences. Whenever Sam stumbles onto some information, a new video sequence is shown. Information abounds in the 17-floor Alexandria as there are 40 different locations and rooms to explore. To succeed in his mission, Sam must utilize all kinds of tools.
Because of the mammoth size of the resort, an elevator will take him to various floors. Once on a floor, collecting information is the mission. To do so, one must use the Electronic Access Guide. This item contains audio and visual information pertaining to various patrons and staff members. Other features include buttons for looking at the date and time, and information about the current floor and room. The Guide will also inform adventurers as to when new rooms and areas can be accessed.
Because of its virtual nature, the Alexandria has various on-line services. Like the Electronic Access Guide, this service contains various buttons for receiving new messages; once the message has been read, however, it is deleted and gone forever. The criminal investigator also has access to the Tele-FX that is used in conjunction with an associate named Lucas. When an unknown item has been collected, send him a virtual message. He'll then send a message stating what the item is and how it can be used. This gizmo is located in the antechamber.
The Chipman is a device that stores newfound data chips for maintenance; six chips can be stored at once. In addition to the aforementioned tools, the Personal Data Assistant shows visual snapshots of various activities, contains audio events and has the power to download scenes and examine pictures. With the latter feature, one can move the cursor around the current picture to find hotspot clues and items.
All of these items are essential to proceed in Club Dead. When items are collected, they're stored in Sam Frost's inventory; to use an item, you must have it equipped and in hand. Items can be found around the Alexandria or received from one of the 40 characters. Can Sam keep the virtual and real worlds apart long enough to solve the case...or will he succumb to the murderous nemesis? ~ Matthew House, All Game Guide
