You are Agent X. Your mission: infiltrate Dr. Boom's secret hideout, steal his secret plans and destroy his underground bomb factory. You'll go through level after level avoiding missile-firing robots, death-ray-shooting floating eyes, and the huge quantity of armed bombs that are moving about the factory on Dr. Boom's conveyer belts. Are you up to the challenge? Find out when you play Cloak and Dagger.
Though released at the same time as the Dabney Coleman film, Cloak and Dagger bears no resemblance to the movie at all in terms of plotline (though the game plays a key part in the movie). The game itself is derivative of Robotron in that you use one joystick to move, and another joystick to fire your weapon, which shoots arrows at your enemies.
Most of the levels look like a top-down view of a bomb factory. There are conveyer belts that move armed (red) and unarmed (green) bombs. You can destroy these bombs with your shots. All the levels have man-sized robots that wander around and try to shoot you with their arrows. They may also be destroyed.
Your objective on each level is always to cross to the other side, where the elevator will take you another level closer to Dr. Boom. There is a large bomb in the middle of each level with a slow-burning fuse. When that fuse burns up you have less than second to reach the elevator or you will be caught in the explosion and lose a life. You do not always want to cross immediately, though, because some levels will contain a box labeled "S," which contains part of a map that will you aid you in crossing a later level filled with deadly mines.
Extra lives may be won by finding a box labeled "X." You can also gain extra points by igniting the center bomb by approaching it and using your "Igniter" button.
Between each level there is an animation of Agent X descending in the elevator to the next level. The game will give you hints while you are in the elevator. If you wish to skip several levels, pull back with both joysticks. ~ Michael Schwartz/Joan Dykman, All Game Guide
