Checkered Flag is an Indy-style racer that will have you speeding across 18 different tracks against nine computer drivers. Three game modes include Practice, Single Heat (one race) and Tournament, which is a series of eight races on your choice of tracks. In order to win the event, you'll have to earn more points than any other driver (first prize is worth 30 points, second is 25, third is 20, and so forth). Players can also choose the number of laps to race (from one to fifty), determine their race position by either running a qualifying lap or having the computer randomly assign it, and set the number of competing drivers from zero to nine.
Other options include selecting the driver's gender, car color and transmission (automatic, four-speed or seven-speed). Once you're ready to start, the view is directly behind your car as you make your way around the track, carefully watching other drivers with two side-view mirrors. A map of the course appears at the top of the screen along with an odometer, lap number, current speed and elapsed time. Win the race and you'll not only receive a trophy, but a hug as well! Up to six human drivers can compete simultaneously with a ComLynx adapter. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
