DESCRIPTION
Having scored critical and commercial success with the superhero-themed MMOs City of Heroes and City of Villains, Cryptic Studios once again turns to the world of comic books for another persistent world RPG in Champions Online. Earth is practically being held hostage by Doctor Destroyer, a megalomaniacal supervillain who will stop at nothing to assert his dominion over the world — as evidenced by his 1992 obliteration of Detroit. Fortunately, humanity has Defender and The Champions on its side, but they cannot save the world by themselves, and thus gamers are enlisted to create their own superhero personas and join in the fight to protect mankind. Players choose a unique identity and select from hundreds of different costumes, accessories, body types, and superpowers, then set about fighting evil using Champions Online's action-based combat system that promises battles more akin to console games than traditional MMOs. No superhero is complete without a nemesis though, so gamers also get to design a supervillain who will bedevil them as they travel to a number of different locations, from the shining metropolis Millennium City, to the underwater realm of Lemuria. ~ Christopher Brown, All Game Guide

“Another free weekend for Champions, so I'm messing around with it again, fun that I get to continue my old characters, but with the way things are going I may end up having one character at max...”

“First of all, thank you for reading this review. I will try and not make any biased comparison with any other MMOs out there.
This game takes part in a world where super heroes are part of every day's life. As a new super hero you will have to prove yourself, make tons of missions and even group with other super heroes. This is a standard MMORPG with it's own little flaws and pros.
Presentation - 9/10
This game is given to you to on a golden plate. Everything from creating your account to the interactive tutorial is pretty well designed. As soon as you enter the game you get carried through a nice cut scene with lore which put you into a context. you also get much needed informations and lores as you go through your tutorial campaign. You will never feel left alone in this world and never you will be forced to read every little amount of informations on Wikis. Who says Super Heroes says Nemesis. This is one of the nicest detail that is into Champions Online - but you will only be able to see this later on.
The customization is more than deep and it does not stop to what you look like. You also get to customize your skills. Let's say that you choose to be fireboy but you feel like a frost bolt would be vital to succeed (spare me the reason behind this), it is possible. There is a lot more of customization that you can do, but you might want to explore them for yourself.
Graphics - 7/10
Cell shaded. Don't get me wrong. The cell shaded is not bad, but it could be optimized in performance. Even with a killer machine you will suffer from minor lags here and there and especially after a short time when you log in. The maps looks a little big like google earth and the playing field makes you feel trapped at first, but this is intended.
Sound - 8.5/10
Voice acting is amazing and so is the effects. With the #-D sound enabled this game sure makes you enter the world and make you feel like a super Hero.
Gameplay - 8/10
Even if this is a MMORPG like many others here, This is the first one that let me choose between various distinct presets in one click. The controls and easy to understand and the hints "Press x to pick up" will change as you modify the binded keys. The only downside is that Champions online does not have some sort of Key recognition when it comes to bind them. You have to choose them in a list.
Lasting Appeal - 8/10
This is no surprise that Champions Online is a well designed game with a lot of presentation. It is still new and still have to face it's Nemesis that have been ruling this whole planet since 2004. Champions Online is nowhere near new in term of gameplay and genre but it feels like a refreshing wind after it's 2003's sibling.”
