DESCRIPTION
Carrier Air Wing is a 1990 aerial combat game from Capcom. Players fly heavily armed jet fighters through cityscapes, seascapes and other exotic locales. They take on airborne enemies, ground enemies and aquatic enemies in a series of missions. A gruff old commander who resembles Sean Connery briefs players before each sortie.
There are three selectable aircraft in Carrier Air Wing, each with different flying speeds and weapons capabilities. Players choose from the speedy F-18, the well-armed A6-E, or the well-rounded F-18. Two players can play Carrier Air Wing simultaneously using different planes.
Before each flight mission, players have the opportunity to buy weapons, shields and fuel to bulk up their planes. During each mission, pilots earn additional money to be spent on subsequent missions. The more enemies a player shoots down, the more money goes into the coffers.
Each mission includes many small enemies, several mid-size enemies and one large, strategic enemy target or "boss enemy." Players can usually dispatch the smaller enemies with one shot, while larger enemies will only fall under a barrage of shots. Before each mission, the commander points out the boss enemy's weak spot. Players should focus fire on that weak spot to defeat the boss enemy quickly.
The Japanese version of Carrier Air Wing is called U.S. Navy. ~ Anthony Baize, All Game Guide
