The third installment in the Carmageddon series presents mankind in an ugly future where the rich have gotten richer and live in luxurious guarded Subates. Everyone else, from criminals to the innocent poor, is crowded into decaying cities where lawlessness and police apathy reigns. Fearing the spread of the lawless society, those in control of the Subates destroyed vast areas and cities with tactical nuclear strikes from orbit. Millions died and those who survived fell victim to horrible mutation and an even more horrible existence.
But, over the years, the downtrodden and maligned rise up in strength and once again threaten the Subates. This time, though, hatred is the driving force as the rich build walls around their inner-urban areas to keep the city scum and mutants out. Cheated once again out of any chance for a decent life, these victims are thrown into a hell-like radiation prison created by the Subate bosses, where gangs rule, murder is commonplace, and criminality is the major mode of survival.
It's now payback time. In Carmageddon 3: TDR 2000, the best means for escape and revenge lies in racing heavily armed automobiles at dangerous speeds, shooting and smashing into as many pedestrian bystanders and rival drivers as possible. Although the storyline varies a bit from the simplicity of its two predecessors, the emphasis is still on graphic violence with the main protagonist requiring a killer instinct, few morals, and a wide array of killer vehicles used for vengeance and elimination of all opponents.
The game features a story-based campaign mode, an enhanced Free Play mode, multiplayer support, and numerous game variations including Free for All, Death Race, Knockout Race, Hot Nut! Fox 'n' Hounds and British Bulldogs. Single-player action is mission based with power-ups, vehicle upgrades and repairs, with armor and special enhancements available for purchase with funds earned through successful missions.
The soundtrack features music by musical groups Plague and the Utah Saints. So whether you're in it for the road kill, racing or high-speed mayhem, prepare yourself to go four-wheeling in more than 30 levels of the gritty, grimy lawless world of Carmageddon 3: TDR 2000. ~ Michael L.
