DESCRIPTION

Based on the 1991 arcade hit of the same name, Captain America and the Avengers lets you choose between four of Marvel Comics' costume-clad superheroes: Captain America, who throws an unbreakable shield; Iron Man, who shoots energy beams; Hawkeye, who shoots explosive arrows with his bow; and Vision, who fires solar beams. Whichever Avenger you control, your goal is to defeat the Red Skull.

There are five levels of play in this game, each of them containing an assortment of henchmen and thugs, as well as villains straight from the pages of Marvel Comics. Each villain is capable of unique fighting abilities. For example, Juggernaut fights using body slams, tackles, and punches, and Crossbones is capable of a spinning attack and is equipped with mines and a pistol. Much of Captain America and the Avengers plays similar to a side-scrolling punch-and-kick game, while at times, the action more resembles that of an outer space shooter. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
