DESCRIPTION
Something of an homage to the original Super Mario Bros., Braid puts a twist on the classic side-scrolling platform game by allowing players to manipulate the flow of time in order to solve puzzles and rescue a kidnapped princess. Each of the game worlds offers players a different time-warping ability, from rewinding time, to creating a parallel universe, to setting up pockets of dilated time, and each ability helps gamers collect scattered pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Each level features backgrounds made to resemble Impressionist paintings, and a running soundtrack of classical music provides ambiance. ~ Christopher Brown, All Game Guide

“There are a lot of things going for Braid... gorgeous art style, excellent music and the experience just being a breath of fresh air to the XBLA library. I believe it set a precedence for the quality and of artistic style for XBLA games at the time. This one will always be memorable to me for the clever use of time manipulation for puzzles of which I hadn't quite ever experienced (made the brain hurt).
I was also impressed by the fact that all puzzles, except for one I believe, was solvable upon reaching it. You don't earn new abilities or anything, but you may find yourself skipping a puzzle, learning some new concepts on the later levels, which then triggers that special "aha" moment... You get to go back with your new-found knowledge to conquer what you may have previously thought was impossible. It's a good feeling.”

“I find my reactions in games slipping. In life, if something gets thrown at me, I get the f*** out of the way, but in games I often just stand there and let it hit me. Not always- I don't want you...”

“What can I say that hasn't already been said? Braid is by far the best indie puzzle-platformer I've ever played. Not that that's a particularly wide genre, but man, it's so fresh and new. Everything about the game hadn't been done before, and that same originality was what drove me to complete it. Not the story, although that was great, and not the graphics and music, which were to a much higher standard than people are accustomed to from the indie scene, but because I knew that the further I got, the more amazing things were going to happen that would blow my mind. Finishing it felt amazing, 'cause I knew that it took so much brain-power, so much thinking, and that I probably never would've got through it without help from my friend. It's the video game equivalent of putting together a jigsaw puzzle. Sometimes all you need is a fresh mind, a new way of thinking, and everything suddenly clicks into place. A perfect score, for what is, almost, a perfect game. Can't wait to see what Mr. Blow comes up with next.”

“I wanted to like this game, but the time travel always seemed slightly counter-intuitive to my expectations and I never had as much fun as I thought I would. There were several times where I saw an out-of-reach item and I had no idea if I was supposed to be able to get to it, or if I was supposed to come back later after I'd learned a new way to bend time.”

“I "acquired" a copy for my PC... the game is beautifully presented. Great sound track and well thought out puzzles, but NO controller support on the PC version? *grumbles”
