DESCRIPTION
The Cartoon Network's popular animé show returns to the DS for more 2D fighting action and an expanded cast of characters in Bleach: Dark Souls. The game follows an entirely new storyline, set between season one and two of the cartoon, in which main character Ichigo Kurosaki continues his quest to save the life of Rukia Kuchiki, the Soul Reaper from whom he gleaned his power. There are 44 playable characters from which to choose, each voiced by real actors from the show, and all the battles take place in 2D, Fatal Fury-style multi-plane arenas. There are 30 new power-up cards and crystals for players to collect, and gamers can use the stylus to access health, attack, and defense "Spirit Cards" in the lower screen. There are seven different game modes, including Story, Arcade, and Versus mode, and multiplayer options let up to four DS duelers battle via Nintendo's Wi-Fi connection, or two players battle head-to-head using only one game cartridge. ~ Christopher Brown, All Game Guide

+ Gameplay mechanics. The game still takes place on a double-laned battlefield with 4 fighters at once. Everybody can do some special moves that define their role, some supers and one big super. If I had to compare it with a single fighter out there I'd have to say "street fighter with a more varied cast".
+ Story mode. Compared to the first one this has greatly improved.
+ It's possible to use cards for temporary bonusses that enhance or hinder the gameflow and/or gameplay. The best thing about them is that they open up a whole lot of strategies if used correctly.
- Fighters. There are definitly tiers and useless characters, which is a shame. Also, due to balancing some got nerfed without any real difference (for casual players at least), like Kenpachi, while others, like Aizen, became nearly useless.
- Too casual-friendly. It's possible to spam all specials from the touch-screen. While not necessary a bad thin this prevents people from actually trying to get a real feel of their character and abuse the card system.”

“The 2nd Installment to the Series, it is more balanced and plays great. I own the Japanese version of this game and the only thing I wish they would of included in the game was the ability to have bots play against you and your friend, instead the allocation of bots is pre-selected so that it is divided one per team, forcing to you play against against your friends and taking away the 3 vs 1 feature. This game contains single-cart and multi-cart options and you can play as all the characters on single cart.”
