DESCRIPTION
Players personally steer the fate of an entire civilization, for better or for worse, in this action-strategy sequel designed to further live up to the divine ambitions of the original. Like the first game, Black & White 2 places players in the role of a powerful god, who can bless or curse the people of the land with the snap of the finger or flick of a wrist. Benevolence inspires adoration, and punishment inspires fear, but in either case, faithful followers are any god's primary resource and it is their belief and devotion that allows the deity to perform awe-inspiring acts.
The building and management elements in Black & White 2 are somewhat more structured than in the original game, and the game's main interface has been streamlined. As in the original, individual villagers may have special prayers from time to time, posing distinct dilemmas to deities who chose to answer them. Once again, the comical, cartoonish angel and devil pop up occasionally to offer their yin and yang commentaries, and to provide insight on the practical pros and cons of both the "good" and "evil" possible solutions to a problem.
Perhaps somewhat less prominent than in the first game, but of no less importance, is the player's creature — an animal avatar in the earthly realms. As a creature grows and learns, it begins to reflect its master's propensity toward good or evil, in both behavior and appearance. There is less of an absolute demand for creature training in Black & White 2, even though its benefits are no less rewarding. Creatures can now be assigned to many menial tasks, which they will dutifully complete. Unless they are taught to think and act for themselves, however, they will never develop into much more than large, powerful drones which must be continually managed. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

“New play style vs the original black and white... would have liked the options to build and stuff like in the first but a solid game. More pets would have been nice.”

“Like its predecessor, Black & White 2 combines distinctly different gaming genres into one game. You will construct sophisticated cities, raise armies and lead them into battle, and if that weren't enough, you get to interact with your giant creature, a sort of virtual pet that can also serve as your enforcer. There's so much in Black & White 2 that it's amazing it all blends together like it does. Though, it does go a bit overboard in some areas at times.
Black & White 2 is considered a god game because you play, well, a god. Specifically, you happen to be god for the Greeks, though that's not to say that you're a Zeus or a Hera or one from the traditional pantheon. The setting is in a fantasy world that happens to be occupied by the Greeks, the Norsemen, the Japanese, and the Aztecs. The Aztecs begin the game by sacking the Grecian capital, but not before you manage to spirit away a handful of survivors to a faraway land to begin anew. This story is a huge improvement over the first game, because it offers a cause to see to the end, as well as a focused enemy to take down.”

“After having borrowed the first one from a friend I got this game, expecting more or less the same. What I discovered was that they didn't really make a sequel but rather a remake. There are some good and some bad things to be said for this so I'll do just that :D
+ RTS. The previous game really didn't offer you a lot to do 'cept occupying yourself with your pet of choice. Now you can influence a lot more aspects of the game which is always nice.
+ Graphics. By God... or well, By Me in this game... the game serious looks a lot better now. I might upload some pics later on but this stuff is nice!
- Armies. You've got this huge creature and mighty god powers, rendering armies nearly useless. Quite a missed chance for me.
- God Powers. Seriously diminished when compared to the first.
- Creature. I don't know why but the creatures got a lot less love here. Not so important since he's become easier to handle but mostly sad if you've ever played the first game :(”

“Has a lot les to do with Civ Building and a lot more to do with fighting. Not really my cup of tea since I can't directly fight... can only encourage my orangutang to fight for me, and he's more interested in playing with villagers.”

“Black & White 2 was a decent sequel to the first. The Creature training gained a page which shows much more clearly what you've been teaching him, as opposed to the haphazard 'did you learn that yet?' of the first. You can send out little armies of your followers to attack the other little groups or just take over towns with their presence. The Lands where much larger then in the last game, which, I rather liked. Along with that, the towns that you build can have a little more personality to them; you can choose buildings based on how you're playing. Nasty looking pits for Evil, fountains and such for Good. All in all, I did enjoy it.”
