DESCRIPTION
The odds are definitely stacked against your character, Robert Foster, from the beginning of Virgin's comic/drama Beneath a Steel Sky.
At the age of six on your first trip out of the City, the helicopter you're in crashes, killing your mother. You are adopted by a group of Outsiders (aptly named because they have no access to the City in this futuristic postapocalyptic tale) who raise you for twenty years in a location known as the Gap.
Life is good until another group of bad guys from the City, known only as Security, rip your world apart by killing your adoptive family and transporting you by helicopter (what else?) back to the City. Once again the helicopter crashes and you survive, escaping from your captors to the top floor of the Security HQ building, with only the circuitboard of your trusty robot, Joey for help.
From this point, your task is to survive life in the City which is covered by a huge steel dome (thus, the title), defeat the evil forces of Security (one of two vast corporations vying for industrial supremacy) and discover who you really are.
Beneath a Steel Sky is a graphic adventure, plot-intensive, that contains subtle British humor as well as satirical references. ~ Michael L. House, All Game Guide

“Finished the somewhat short adventure game today. The ending was just ok, but overall, I think that the journey was worth taking. The visuals are very nice 2d sprite art with beautifully rendered...”

“Played through much of this cool little adventure game in one sitting. This is an old adventure game made by a British developer in 1994 using Lucasart's SCUMM engine. I think given my current...”

“No pew pewing in this one, just good old point-and-click problem solving in a dystopian skyscraper city.”

“Playing this game on the phone is like one of the best things ever!”

“I've seen this game has been released for an iPhone and absolutely by chance I've noticed that this game is being given away on Good Old Games for free”

“Overall, this was an OK game with some distracting elements (timed puzzles, I'm looking at you). I felt it got a little more light-hearted in the middle and decided to take a step back from the self-important bag of dystopia clichés the beginning hinted at. On the one hand it's good that the writers realized they just weren't up to the task of creating anything that hasn't already been done a hundred times - and often better -, but on the other side it's kind of sad to see developers just losing faith in their vision halfway through. What's really bad, though, is completely giving up towards the end - just not caring anymore, replacing puzzles with death traps (one sequence in particular is straight up Dragon's Lair) and tying up the story threads all too neatly in a dénouement that feels like the result of focus group testing, although it probably isn't.
Terrible writing cliché of the day (with spoilers!): The female helping hand getting killed for no other reason than to strengthen the male protagonist's resolve (and so he can shout "I owe it to her!").”

“"Completed" the game. I put completed in quotation marks because I died at the very last puzzle and ScummVM refused to read my last save game, so I had to watch the ending on Youtube. ”

“Kitten videos! See, people in the dystopian future are just like Youtube users, except with VHS. ”

“Yeah yeah, those hyperactive kids and their video games, always skipping classes. They really suck, don't they, Revolution Software?”

“Managed to get to the lower floor. There were some decent puzzles along the way and some not so decent ones - I'm still undecided on this game. All screenshots ended up being 0kb in size for some...”

“With a little help from my friends (at UHS Hints) I made it off the top floor today. Yes, I cheated, but so far I found the puzzles awkward, with too much emphasis on pixel hunting further...”

“A part of me wants to buy this... $20 for the entire Space Quest collection. Those games were so formative for me. If I had the time to play them, I might, but I have Beneath a Steel Sky on my...”
