Bejeweled 2 continues PopCap's gem-matching game with four play modes, ten sci-fi backdrops, and new strategies to master. Once again players are challenged to create matches of three or more by swapping adjacent gems horizontally or vertically. Players advance levels and build their score until it is no longer possible to create a match. Bejeweled 2 introduces the ability to create two new gem types. Matching four produces a "power gem" that detonates if matched with similar gems. Creating five-gem matches forms a "hyper cube," which clears the entire board of the gem type it touches during a swap.

Four modes include Classic, Action, Puzzle, and Endless. Classic is the standard game played without a time limit, while Action has players trying to beat the clock. Puzzle involves clearing gems in a series of progressively difficult challenges, and Endless offers non-stop matching mayhem. Secret game modes can also be unlocked by fulfilling certain milestones. Bejeweled 2 tracks individual stats in eight distinct categories, from best score and biggest combo to number of gems collected and total time played.
