To combat the combined forces of the vengeful Dark Queen and the mighty Shadow Boss, the Battletoads and the Double Dragons have teamed up in this 16-bit remake of the NES original. You (or you and a friend in simultaneous two-player mode) can choose one of three Battletoads. As Zitz, Rash, or Pimple you fight your way through the seven levels of action, or you can be one of the Double Dragon brothers, Jimmy and Billy Lee.
Each team has its own fighting style: The Toads rely on big punches and kicks, headbutts, and slams, among other street-fighting maneuvers, while the Dragons fight using the various karate techniques that they are known for. Both teams incorporate a variety of special moves and weapons into their fighting. The most effective method for disposing of an enemy is to knock him to the ground and kick him off the screen. While Battletoads/Double Dragon:The Ultimate Team consists primarily of punch and kick, side-scrolling fights, at times it introduces elements of a shooter. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
