The first title from EA's popular Battlefield series to be released under the company's "Play 4 Free" line of games, Battlefield Heroes is a free multiplayer shooter that takes on a lighter and more cartoonish tone than its many cousins. Gamers take part in a pared-down version of Battlefield's "Conquest" mode that mixes elements of traditional "Capture-the-Flag" action with a ticket-based point system designed to encourage skirmishes. There are four maps from which to choose, and players can represent the Royals or the Nationals, with both factions offering identical weapons, classes, and vehicles. Jeeps move characters quickly, while tanks are ultra-powerful, and planes are good for quick assaults. From a class standpoint, Gunners specialize in heavy weapons and have the most health, but are slow-footed; Commandos are fast and good for long-range attacks or sneaky stealth kills, but they have the lowest amount of health; and Soldiers don't do any one thing particularly well, but they offer scouting help and medical expertise. Each class has special abilities that can be honed or purchased by participating in battles and accumulating "Hero points," while "Valor points" are used to purchase weapons or special items, and gamers can improve (level) their characters as many as 30 different times. ~ Christopher Brown, All Game Guide
