DESCRIPTION

Bad Company takes the open-level play of the online, multiplayer-oriented Battlefield games and makes it more personal — and more profitable. In a relatively extensive single-player campaign, gamers take the role of a renegade soldier in the near-future, who joins three of his brothers-in-arms to go AWOL in search of personal fame and fortune. A variety of land, air, and sea craft become available during their adventures, along with an arsenal of powerful weaponry.

As seems to be common among modern mercenary video game heroes out for profit, the soldiers of Bad Company have an appetite for destruction. The game features destructible environments, which become part of the gameplay. Buildings, barriers, and the earth itself can be disrupted with the right firepower and players are encouraged to use their ability to alter the battlefield in order to complete mission objectives.

In addition to the single-player modes, Battlefield: Bad Company features online play with support for 24 players. Along with established Battlefield multiplayer game types, Bad Company offers a "Gold Rush" mode, in which teams take turns at offensive and defensive roles in destructible, re-shapeable battlefields. The game is the first to run on EA DICE's "Frostbite" game engine, designed for destructible 3D action in high-definition.

Controversially, EA's initial release of Bad Company is available in two packages: a regular edition and a "Gold Edition." Ten additional weapons for the game are available as downloadable content, after the main game is purchased. Five of the weapons are available for free and the other five can be purchased for a fee by regular edition owners. “@ Colliny2K XBL all the way, I got tired of going broke trying to keep my CPU up to snuff for the requirements they are demanding nowadays for gaming.

“@mykalgaidin I can agree. That CoD, Gears, and Battlefield are a lot more heavy in multiplayer then others. But that's why I have a very large RPG collection. I still love co-op and sometimes Multiplayer. But I love my single player games more. No cheaters, no hate, no reason to turn off my mic in single player games.

But get a large group of close friends and these games are just as awesome as single play. Which is why I can't wait to play Gears 3 tonight.”

“I agree. Games have the capacity to be fully fleshed out multiplayer AND single player experiences now. However single player games usually tack on multiplayer, and multiplayer games tack on single player.

There are a few that do it pretty well though. I really enjoyed Uncharted 2 for it's single and multiplayer. Tetris kicks ass no matter how you play it.

MAG was multiplayer only, and I have many friends that loved that game to death. No single player required.

Dead Space 2 on the flip side though... Why did it even bother with multiplayer?

I find creators should either focus on single or multiplayer as a whole and not tack on the other unless they have something really solid to go on. It irritates me but I guess from a developer stand point it fleshes out the experience even if it's a little on the BS side.”

“@Roxas-UrBoxas Have you every played Fable 2 or 3's co-op? Your response is why companies should stick to their original game plan and not try to add in stuff near the end of development.

It pisses me off because if a game does great then every developer jumps on that bandwagon. Picks what they think sold that game and use it in theirs. It's almost always ends up a failure.”

“@DarthOdium Sadly I'm not big on the xbox... I'm not a part of the console wars or anything, their controller just bugs me. I managed to beat Lost Odyssey, Gears 1 and 2, and that was it. I've watched a lot of fable, but never saw any co-op, just people playing solo. Seemed like a really fun game but I just can't get past the hardware of xbox, and trust me I tried to get adjusted, Lost Odyssey was not short.

So I missed your point though... Fable had a great solo and multi experience? Other companies tried and failed? Sounds about right to me... Great games can mix the two very well.

I found Portal 2 was enjoyable in both single and multiplayer as well now that I think about it.”

“It seems to me that every time a shooter tries to do a "fleshed out" single player campaign in addition to its multiplayer we get crap like Modern Warfare or Gears of War, both of which feel like shooting galleries. Even Valve knows when to create a dedicated single player experience (e.g. Half Life 2) and a separate multiplayer experience (TF2). They're two very different game types. And frankly, when speaking of Battlefield, multiplayer is far from a "devolution." The dynamics and strategy of multiplayer in BF, which isn't solely focused on kills or chains, but more on teamwork, are something to be sought after, not bemoaned because it "detracts" from playing with AI.”

“Also, am I the only one thinking of getting the PS3 version? I'm not so confident in the 360 build since they didn't have any playable demos for it until pretty late in the development cycle.”

“@Frohike I personally am getting the game for PC (because of the graphical and scale difference). The only thing that scares me about the PS3 is the online activity and I'm not saying this because of the recent PSN hacks but rather the fact that it seems like Xbox Live has won the market on online gaming over PSN. I am quite curious to see how q times work out for both network and can only assume that XBL will be much quicker. I do have both a 360 and PS3 so am by no means a fanboy of either. Personally I like the hardware on the PS3 better than the 360.”

“With all the standard networking protocols out there I think it is just lame that the consols "can't" get there crap together so that you could play against other players platform independent. Every single one of them is connecting to the internet... *shudder* LAME & GREEDY”

“I'm excited for the game as well and would probably get it on PS3 if I do, as most of my avid-gaming friends would have it on there.

I'm not concerned about connectivity as much as I'm concerned about game dynamics. The last Battlefield game seemed buggy and my character was constantly getting caught on small branches and invisible walls.. I'm hoping I wont have to deal with that again.

As for the campaigns not being the highlight or the center of the game I can agree. I feel it's the game developers problem though as they have ceased to make it compelling enough to have a good replay value. If more games had co-op campaigns that would help. I think one of the better story lines is MW2 and I cried when ghost died.. but it's hard for me to go back through the campaign after I complete it on the hardest difficulty and only find myself doing so when my internet is down. Something MW2 did do that I really like was the Spec-Ops missions which were playable offline, co-op, and by yourself.

I've only ever played them on PC and I honestly cant say that I've had the same experience with the little bugs other than when the game first launches. Not by any means am I disagreeing with what you are saying but I think it may just be the fact that the game is kind of ported to console and built first for PC. It makes me wonder how much time is really put into testing the console versions or even for that matter the thought before it ever gets to console as far as how well it will perform.”

“@TamaraLane if you're talking about playing with other console users online they tried that already in the ps2 era and it was a mess which is one of the reasons they don't try it now.

More specifically they let console users be able to play with PC users on the same servers on certain games. The PC users completely dominated the console users, especially in shooters because PC usually doesn't have aim-assist while consoles have it auto-enabled on most games and users go with it. So PC users had tremendously better aim (reflexes too because a mouse moves better than small joysticks).

I think atleast one game was cross-platform on the consoles that let ps2 and xbox users play with eachother (I think it was some failed mmorpg), but I don't know exactly how that went.

I personally think it also has something to do with networking and money. If Microsoft decided to do something new with their network or whatever then Sony and/or Nintendo would be forced to do the same so there won't be any compatibility problems. Then, there will be a lot of complaints and bickering then they'll refuse to talk to one another for weeks while still sleeping in the same bed before a bitter divorce.”

“@Bonemane Yep that's exactly what I'm talking about, & the problem is all the consols have reinvented the wheel when it comes to networking. You can get a mouse and keyboard to plug into x-box, so thats not really a valid excuse. Bottom line is theres more money to be made by not being able to network than by being able to. How many people on this forum have you seen that own multiple copies of the same game, (and multiple systems), just so they can play with friends that don't have the same platform. Besides if it's hardware limitations that would make one better than the other, thats just an argument for whoever's hardware sucks to get better. Let's face it though, these companies do not want that kind of direct comparison / competition.”

“For what it's worth, the console beta is pretty atrocious and feels like a downgrade from BC2 in many areas (gun feel, control, graphics). Such a bummer. I wish I had a PC that could run this game.”

“Lame! I thought they had taken it to all consoles. It had a 32 and 64 player map set...I even saw some 58 player caps...It was really awesome. The vehicles are tons of fun. I think there will be more screwing off in battlefield for the first few weeks than COD tho which I'm a bit sad about. I saw people trying "stunts" in the jets.”

“The jet was point and increase throttle. The only issue I had was that I had to turn quite often because of how fast the jet is moving, else I'd be out of bounds.”

“To me it's where you play the same maps { sort of } with the same class { medic } just for sheer EXP. Not achievements, or KDR, just plain old experience points to rank up.”

“With all the FPS shooters that have RPG elements I'd say you can definitely grind a FPS. And just as WILDMAMMOTH said you can grind any game where exp matters. Once I find a good room in Battlefield you usually see me in there for a couple hours racking up kills.”
