Designed to teach young girls about the importance of individuality, Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses is the story of Genevieve and her multitude of sisters who must save their father from poison and their kingdom from the dictatorship of Duchess Rowena. Thinking the girls need training in proper princess practicum, the king invites his cousin Rowena to stay and teach the 12 dancing princesses how to act like ladies. Instead of helping, that old biddy Rowena forbids any form of singing and dancing, and locks the girls away in hidden rooms around the castle.
