Gamers are invited to embark on a branching, player-driven solo campaign, or join a 140 square mile game world for large online PvP battles in ArmA II, the third release in Bohemia Interactive Studio's modern warfare series. Players control Sgt. Patrick Miles and his five-man team of Marines as they use more than 150 vehicles, wield over 70 different weapons, and manage their important resources throughout the fictional Soviet state of Chernarus. The action was designed to be intense and realistic, with adaptive AI, bullet ballistics and deflection, dynamic weather effects, and terrain based on real-world geographical data. “Dear god was Arma II not optomized well! It looks like charcoal, and has extreme slowdown issues, even with a really up to date computer. It's also got some of the worst voice acting I've ever heard in a game. How this game got past a 4 or 5 is beyond me.”

“do you have the game? or did you base your opinion on the demo..cause if thats thrue..then u cant be anymore wrong..the graphics are by far some of the best..on par with crysis IMO..its funny.. i have a c2d 2.4ghz 2 gigs and a 4890 and i can play everything on high... as for the voice acting...since its a simulator..all the voice acting is generated on the spot..you do realize it needs to be procedural since even tons of campaign elements are completely randomized, including sub-objectives...”

And you say that the demo quality isn't as good as the full game? Is there a lot less slowdown? Also, I guess that the bad voice acting is forgivable if what you're saying really is the case.”

“@stukinit Back in the day I was Voodoo cards. Then ATI. However at the time I built my last computer (May of 07') Nvidia had more power stock on their cards (8800 Ultra I have). I was gonna go with Nvidia again, but going with ATI, I can have 4gpus :)

In regards to the RAM limit, boards even from 2 years ago have a lower ram limit in their BIOS. I am waiting for them to lift the 8gb limit on 64-bit Vista, however since I am going with Windows 7, I am wondering if they lifted the limit for it, then its a matter of the Motherboards letting their bios recognize more than 8gb.”

“So then... if i understand this correctly, your point is that 64-bit computing with the ability to address well over 1TB of ram is not able to handle more than 8GB's of System RAM. And that it is the Board AND Vista that are limiting the total allocatable RAM to 8GB's.

Currently Vista Business and above can support ~128GB of total RAM, so yes you are right that some boards can only support 8GB of ram, but it is the Board limiting the RAM, not Vista or Win7.

“I know how you feel at the beginning of the summer I amassed what I refer to as my "Summer Gaming List". Basically its comprised of a lot of games that were on clearance that I always wanted to play, or ones that have been sitting in my library for months.
So far my list consists of:

Prototype

Star Wars: the Force Unleashed

Valcuria Chronicles

Finish Tale of Vesperia

What makes matters worse is that the big titles start coming out next month! So far I have plans to play:

August: Batman: Arkham Asylum

September: Halo: ODST

October: Brutal Legend!!!!!!!!

I need to get back to:

Ghostbusters

“Im finding it rewarding to be snobby. T There are finally so many games out there that it's actually beneficial to turn my nose up at some. We have/had some similar games on our lists.. and here's why I axed them off of mine:

I watched Giant Bomb's quick look on Arma II and immediately crossed it off my list. Easy Peasy.

Similarly I heard some bad things about Ghostbusters. The developers of that game had enough time to make it really really good good, and apparently it's meh. There are plenty of non-meh games out there to play.. so See ya!

I'm waiting for Empire Total War to get that multiplayer campaign patch before I go back into it -- or if that takes too long, then wait for the latest Total Realism version for the new patch.

Battlefield 1943 is good, but not enough people on my friends list are playing. The Battlefield series of games really need a good squad to get going, so this will probably soon fall off my list as well.

I didn't like Too Human. It got old fast. :'( That doesn't mean that you shouldn't play it.. just saying that even when gaming was slow, I couldn't bring myself to keep it from Gamefly for long.

Now LoTRO. I'm loving that game. It's had years of polish that I now get to enjoy (instead of playing Beta). Plus, it's bigger than it was before. Oh boy!”
