Set in a fantasy world where magic has had a good long run and the protagonist enters in the midst of a technological revolution. While the plot does not concentrate on this fact, it is still a major factor in the game. The spiced fantasy setting includes the de-facto races (Elves, Gnomes, Dwarves, Humans, Half-Orcs, Halflings, Half-Ogres and Half-Elves).

Classes are not as clear cut as in many other games of similar setting. In fact, one could state that there are no classes. It is entirely up to the player to decide where to spend the limited skill points and thus creating unique characters. It is even possible to mix both magic and tech skills, although if maxed, they provide bonuses and resistances to opposing school.

Story is well written and numerous side quests offer ample distraction. Combat difficulty leaves something to be desired. At the very beginning, everything is a major threat, whereas towards the end (and party members) it sometimes feels like nothing is able to stop the player. Luckily, the combat can be played in turn-based or real time modes.

The crafting system feels, at times, cumbersome, as you have to either buy, steal, collect, find or create many of the materials used in the creations. Some items are very rare and very limited. But the reward is usually worth it. An active community keeps the game alive by releasing unofficial patches and other content upgrade.

The musical score by Ben Houge is simply one of the most memorable in any game and works well on its own as well. It is available for free download.”
