Based on characters and settings from DreamWorks' 1998 computer animated movie, Antz Racing is a go-kart game played from a three-quarter viewpoint. Six characters are available to race as or against, each with their own vehicle. Z rides a spinach leaf, Bala races in a can, Weaver is packed in a sardine tin, Cutter competes in a capsule, Mandible is housed a shell casing, and Azteca is perched atop a nutshell. Each vehicle is rated in speed, resistance, and handling.
Two modes of play are available in Antz Racing: 4 Seasons, which is a tournament spanning eight courses, and Quick Race, which lets players practice on any of the available circuits. The tracks are divided equally among the four areas of Anthill, Forest Park, Frozen Pond, and the City. As players race around the environments, they can pick up one of seven bonuses found along the track. Speed, Invincibility, Missile, Damage, Ghost, One-Up, and Random.
Each vehicle has a horizontal damage meter that gradually fills up when players run over pitfalls or are attacked by competing characters. Once the meter is filled, the player loses one of the three vehicles held in reserve. The goal is to finish first on each track, which may require finding hidden passages to gain an edge on the competition. As players advance through the tournament, they can resume their progress at a later time via passwords awarded at the end of each race. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
