DESCRIPTION
All-Star shortstop Derek Jeter endorses Acclaim Sports' second baseball game for the color handheld, which offers the same interface as found in All-Star Baseball 2000. New features include updated rosters to reflect the 2000 season and a Cooperstown Hall-of-Fame team. Players can choose from 30 authentic teams and six modes of play: Home Run Derby, Batting Practice, Exhibition, Season, All-Star Game, and Playoffs
As in the 1999 version, pitching and hitting are performed from a view above and behind home plate. Once contact is made, the screen switches to a three-quarter view to track the ball. Managers can adjust lineups to take advantage of left- or right-handed pitchers, position the outfield and infield for power hitters, and warm up a closer late in the ninth. Players can also steal bases, bring in pinch hitters, and intentionally walk batters.
Pitching involves three steps: positioning a target on a vertical meter to determine the height; aiming the pitch over the plate using a horizontal meter; and selecting one of eight pitches and its speed before carrying out the throw. When batting, players can choose from three different swings as well as push or pull the ball using the directional pad.
Players can embark on a full 162-game season (based on the 2000 schedule), complete with playoffs and World Series play. Passwords are used to resume progress, which means statistics cannot be saved. Options include two difficulty settings, four different season lengths, auto fielding, and a choice of Regulation or Quick Play modes. The latter is so named because each batter automatically steps into the box with two strikes. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
