DESCRIPTION
A group of five space marines has been sent to investigate a distress call sent by the space freighter Thanatos in Aliens: Thanatos Encounter. On board, they discover the ship has been overrun by the deadly xenomorphs first encountered by Ellen Ripley and the crew of the Nostromo. The marines' job is to rescue the remaining survivors and exterminate the alien menace, but is there another force at work?
Aliens: Thanatos Encounter is divided into 15 levels, with goals ranging from rescuing hostages to finding a hidden prototype weapon. Each marine has his/her own speed and stamina rating, and their lives are handled in a distinct way. When the health of the marine you're controlling is reduced to zero, you reenter the level with one of the remaining marines and are given a limited amount of time to rescue your fallen comrade. Once there are no marines, the game is over.
Seven different weapons are at your disposal, including a pulse rifle, smart gun and grenade launcher. You can also select one of three gunfire modes to suit your situation. In "strafe" mode, holding down the fire button causes you strafe in any direction while shooting in a constant path. When it's beneficial to stay stationary while shooting in multiple directions, this can be accomplished by switching to the "locked" mode of gunfire. The "free" mode lets shoot in the direction you're facing while holding down the fire button. ~ Skyler Miller, All Game Guide
