As we set sail for future lands of Tyria, I your captain has realized that we need to do some thinking!
First of I suggest you all get familiar with the traits system in GW2. As soon as I opened them up i realized that this is IMPORTANT! Traits will make or break your build! Familiarize yourself with what they do and how they will affect the build play style you wish to play in Guild Wars 2.
Second, Crafting! I selected to be an artificer and a jeweler. I was on the verge of haveing spent enough time looking at crafting, to actually make something. You can only have 2 crafting professions active at a time, so it will be important that our guild have crafters and cooks. I may become a tailor so that I can create runes, and a cook so that I can make buffs (cons) also tempting for me are artificer, to create staffs and weapon upgrades, and jeweler to create jewelry, which can hold a sigil.
I would like the officers to learn different sets of skills so that we can stock our guild bank, and our guild will be well supplied for whatever we undertake!
I believe when Guild Wars 2 starts, I will create multiple low level ranks.
- Initiate - New recruits, No permission to Guild bank, cannot wear banner.
- Member - can wear banner
- Recruiter - can recruit initiates & nominate members
- *Something - contributes to & has access to guild bank
- Etc...
Lots to think about & plan.... getting psyched!

RE: Traits and Crafting (GW2)
I ahve to say, this is pretty well thoguht out. We should also think about getting different people to craft different armors and stuff as well. That way we don't overload on say Jewelers and not enough heavy armor makers. Just a thought.

RE: Traits and Crafting (GW2)
My thought was that it would be best to learn to craft armor & weapons for your profession initially. I think food (buffs) will be more important when we move into more difficult areas.
I suspect that the fancy armor is going to come from drops or purchase. I saw fancy armorers in the city with expensive armor. but the real thing we will get from our crafters will be runes. Since runes are not salvageable and we apparently will go through a lot of armor on our journey to maxing our toons, It stands to follow we will need a lot of runes. It's unclear whether runes will be usable on all types of armor, but it looks like they will be interchangeable. Say I'm a tailor. If I create a rune, can I then give it to my warrior or friend to use on his armor? It looks like yes, based on the materials used, I will be able to craft runes for any profession. We may find that as the guild matures, we only need a few armor-smiths producing runes, rather than having armor for every profession in or armory, We may find it is better just to produce armor on demand. That requires that we have skilled armor-smiths available.
I have this same suspicion about weapons. Good weapons in our armory will be nice of course, but I think what is going to be important is crafting sigils. Once again the same reasoning here. Crafted weapons will more than likely be pretty vanilla, at least until you are a master craftsman.
And of course, the same thinking applies to jewelers. It will be the jewels that will more than likely be the important thing, not so much the jewelry itself.
Having a cook of course means that we will have buffs. We have seen how important cons have become in hard areas of GW. I think having a good cook or 2, or more will be very important for the guild. I suspect that you may even see guilds recruiting for cooks specifically.

RE: Traits and Crafting (GW2)
I agree with you. it would be good to have a good balance still. I will be doing a lot of the crafting stuff simply because I am a nut that likes to know about all things Guild Wars. =) I do want to do Light Armors with Tailoriing. But i want to be able to craft Heavy armors for my Guardian and anyone else that likes Homemade stuffs =).

Also we can keep in mind that for Traits, we can pay to have them changed if you decide to change the way you play. =)
