I'm posting this in the members area for reasons that will soon be apparent...

at 3am this morning I received a phone call...
the guy on the other end had a thick russian accent..
he knew my name... and about brian... and about this SfDR group...

He said that he could help me an my friends out ...
but that he would need us to help him with something later...
he warned that we would need to commit to helping him...
and that helping him could put brian in danger...

He said he had someone working for him inside these Society people..
He offered to give us the login in exchange for an undisclosed favor later...

he said he would call me again at the end of the week wanting an answer...

what do you guys think?

To me, it seems like this SfDR is currently our only valid lead in our search for Brian...and until we get the login, we're going to remain at a standstill.  So, I think we should keep trying to find the login through other means, but if we don't have it by the time Mr. Russian calls you back, I think you should accept the offer.  At this point, doing something has to be better than doing nothing...even if it might put Brian's life in danger.

I agree James. I just received a pm from VoicelessHarbinger which makes me think we have a way in if we put our minds to it...

You know what this tells me?  Brian's still alive, and this guy knows where he is.  I think that doing anything to put him in danger at this point is a bad idea.  We can figure this out!

Brian didn't trust these Russian guys and neither should we.

We might not have much of a choice I've tried to get into singularitynow.org with every possible thing I could think of, I don't think we should give up but if we cant get in by the time he calls I think we should take him up on the offer. one thing I'm concerned about is what this favor is going to be

I'm not entirely convinced the Russian guys were out to get Brian.  I kind of have a feeling they were trying to help in their own weird way.  With all the other stuff going on, I think Brian just got a little paranoid about everything.

I'm waiting for the day when, if you tell someone 'I'm from the internet', instead of laughing they just ask 'Oh, what part?'

It appears that everyone has already cast their vote, here are my two cents.

We know there are at least two groups of people involved, and they aren't friendly. What we're dealing with is bigger than just Brian. We don't know who the good guys are here. The Russians have already put their trust in us, having contacted us and having told us all about their spy.

I say for now lets trust the Russians, but i would record your next conversation with them. In case what the Russian asks us to do isn't kosher. We then have the option to blow the lid on the whole thing. They knew this risk when they contacted us.

B.T.W. moving this convo to members only is minimal security. Given their passive nauture from brian's blog,  I'd be surprised if the Russians didn't have someone monitoring this.
Watch what you say.
