Rules and Guidelines

Posted by Nitocris on 05-Jun-08 02:52am

1. Roleplay Policy.

This means that you remain in character, and do not try to crash in character events for out of character reasons. This behavior is required to remain within the guild. In order to advance within the hierarchy of the House you must gain a number of RP points. These points are earned at scheduled RP events, but can also be awarded whenever spontaneous roleplay between members is logged or otherwise witnessed by a guild officer. Logs or summaries of activities can be posted here on the forum, or can be discussed in character through the mail system with an officer. Our House deals in information, so consider log posts through the mail system to be an in character message!

Since we assign RP points, members are not required to show up to scheduled role-play events unless they desire advancement or socialization. Channels and tells are not considered in character. Only local communication and mail are valid, unless you have established another method of communication, such as magic or dream-sending.

2. Rules of Conduct.

The House of the Rising Sun is a mercenary guild which assassinates political figures, and fights where the coin lies. However, this does not mean that blatantly insulting out of character interaction is appropriate. If players harass or mistreat other guild members or our allies, they will be demoted, exiled, or otherwise dealt with.

If harassment is purely in character, then expect to be reacted to in character. Player consent is necessary for any violent or sexual interaction, though the "summary rule" may apply in cases where interaction cannot be avoided. While these situations are rare, we will try to discuss things as reasonable adults.

3. Humor, wit, and maturity.

While we do not have an age requirement, we ask that players interact with each other in a cordial and intelligent manner. Disruptive and persistent out of character begging will not be tolerated. If you have a problem with the game that you cannot resolve except by the help of a GM, then please quietly wait for the GM to arrive. Pissing and moaning about the game launch over the guild channel is something that should be kept to a minimum.

4. Responsibility to other members.

We often adventure together, but we are not a power leveling service. This is simply a general rule, and members are not required to give items or other in game assets to other members. However if you really like helping out lower level members, we encourage and reward this behavior. If an item drops which is really great for one character in the team, only they should roll need on that item. Otherwise the greed looting option should be used at all times when traveling with guild-mates, regardless of possible in character miserly ways. Assistance is often freely offered, but should never be expected or demanded. You are always responsible for your own leveling needs.

If you have any concerns, complaints, or questions about our guild code, send a tell to Heist or Danach.

Information Regarding Backstory Posts

Posted by Nitocris on 05-Jun-08 02:14am

Here are some general things to think about when composing your backstory post:
  • Make sure to indicate in the subject line whether your post is written in character (such as a journal, letter, or face-to-face encounter) or out of character. You should do this by attaching (ooc) or (ic) at the end of your post.
  • We won't know anything about your character that doesn't show up in your backstory, so while we have no requirements for class, faction, or gender, be sure to mention them in some way if you feel that they are important to your character's identity.
  • Try to pay attention to the forum's spell checking utility, and give your own post a proof read. While grammar and spelling aren't the most important things in life (to me anyway...) it makes your post much more coherent and interesting if there aren't a lot of typos.
  • Lastly, we're an adults only guild, so don't be concerned with omitting profanity or mature themes. Just be aware that everyone who comes by our site will be able to read your post. If your character is a raunchy paphian, or a violent serial killer - who are we to judge? Just be sure to present yourself as you expect to be treated.
