New Forums are up.

Posted by GodMode on 26-Jun-09 01:49pm

Hello-

Forums are up for posting, but the skin is still not done, so they are still in their generic, phbpp, state. Please make a post in the introduction section first.

Also let me explain a little as to how the forums are designed. As you know the new forums will be more of a community site than just a legion site. We have placed threads in a certain way to get the most amount of community participation (players not members of Ultima). So please pay extra attention to the captions, so we don't have to move your threads around.

Currently, a guest may view the forums, but not post. A registered user may post but is limited to the public sections. And, Ultima members may post in all.

Also I should mention that Serin is the Forum Administrator, any issues you have you should contact him.

P.S. Please read the naming policy thread, and make sure you are in compliance with Ultima and NCSoft's naming policy. Otherwise you will have to change it in the future.

IMPORTANT: Time for the tough talk kids.

Posted by GodMode on 25-Jun-09 03:21am

Well guys, it's about that time:

First of all let me just say that this is not mandatory at all. It will make no difference in your being accepted or declined from the legion. I have never brought this up before, because I wanted to have something in hand to show everyone. It is a rough draft, but I personally think it is beautiful. It is different from the R-A site. There will be a video playing where it says "ULTIMA" on top, different from the R-A one. Also I should mention the R-A site does not exist anymore. This design will be the only design of it's kind. I will also try to present multiple color schemes as well. Right below the names of the different sections of the forums, will be a giant chat box. I know how we all use our shout box and its so tiny. Well this way we can communicate freely even when we are at our jobs or school. I also cleared this next thing with Curse. We will put the AionArmory search bar so you can search and find any item or tool from the game, right there without leaving AionUltima. So there is a lot more, this is just a rough template. The site should be done in 2-weeks.

So far I have been paying for our vent, domain, hosting, and web site development from my own pocket. However now we need to start thinking a little bigger. We will need a bigger 100-man+ ventrilo server. The current vent I am hosting can not hold that many people. Also we can not use Gamerdna anymore. It is free which is great but it is not up to par for a legion that is going to be running two guilds competing with some of the top guilds in the world.

I am asking everyone to donate at least $10.00. Look, 10-bucks is not a lot. I can't even watch Transformers with 10-bucks, because it costs like $12.00. So if we are going to spend 12 months (minimum) till god knows when (most likely a few years), wouldn't it make sense to spend 10-bucks to build a legion we can be proud of? Also for anyone who is willing to go the extra mile and donate $20.00 I have decided to give a special forum-title. I don't know what this title will be right now, but it will be better than the normal "Member" title that is for sure. Given we will have two legions, which I expect to be 150-members plus 30-alts, even if 20-people had the special forum title, that would put you in the 13% group, which is rare. I also want to use the funds to start a podcast perhaps and make videos. To make a name for Ultima and keep recruiting quality players. We haven't really even started recruiting. All these legions have recruitment posts on every single fan-site possible, just go and check AionBlah, AionGlobal, Alla, Hellbound..etc. I wanted us to wait until we had our stuff straight. I always joke on forums about how Ultima is a casual-RP legion, mainly because like most legions I don't want to be a bunch of thread flamers. I want to let my actions do the talking in game. When in fact the truth really is, Ultima is the only legion which has three players who have more than 2 level 50s on the Korean side; SB, Jei and myself (Meghan played but she didn't make it to 50, lulz). Ultima is also the first NA/EU legion that will put out a 1-50 leveling guide. All these other legions haven't even played past patch-1.1. So in all honesty we are ahead of most legions, if not all. Not to mention that I am getting ready to play patch-1.3, so we will know so much more after that. But it is up to us to either keep the lead or let them pass us.

Any ways that was my little sales pitch, because I really care for Ultima. I won't nag anyone about this. If someone says "No" once, I won't ask again. And again, I will mention that this is not mandatory. But, if we all came together and pitched in, it would really help all of us build something truly great in a game that will last a very long time to come. Thank you everyone.

Small note to new Members (Applicants)

Posted by GodMode on 20-Jun-09 09:57am

Hello-

I just wanted to reiterate something: Being accepted on the forums as a "Member" or being invited to the BETA guild only means that you were accepted on a trial basis. The official trial period begins at launch, and is 2-weeks long. You may be asked to leave any time from now until any period prior to your 2-weeks in the launch guild. Some of you may feel this is unfair as you have already bonded with the guild or other applicants, but at the moment we do not have much to judge you on besides forum participation and past accomplishments. We try to look at your behavior and general demeanor during BETA events or on vent whenever we can, which can take longer than usual to judge as BETA events are only 2-3 days long. Besides that we also look at forum participation, and what sort of a commitment you bring to the guild.

Please do not take this personally, it most definitely is not. We only do what we believe is best for Ultima, and to help it possibly become the top guild on its server and succeed. Just being a "HARDCORE" player is not enough. Along with that it is very important that all of us get along. And, it is obvious that when bringing together a group of 100+ people to one location, not everyone is going to get along perfectly. Some times we will deny an appilicant on the sole reason that they would not sync well, even though the player's past accomplishments are amazing. So simply being denied here does not mean that you are not an above average player, or that you might even surpass us on many levels. Also, keep in mind that there are many other accomplished guilds out there.

If you have further questions as to why your application was denied, please contact myself through PM, and I would be more than happy to dicuss the issue.

Thank you for reading.

Welcome!

ULTIMA: Scion of Giruvegan
Race:
Elyos
Website: Ultima

Background!

We have lead a guild in almost every major mmorpg that has been out, just not always under the name Ultima because it did not fit the game-lore. Our most recent game has been Lord of the Rings Online. The last time we played under Ultima was Final Fantasy XI, and I am very happy that we can finally play as Ultima again!

I resigned as leader of our LOTRO kinship about a year and a half ago when I started law school at the University of Florida (Go Gators!!!!!!!!!). I swore off mmo's forever! Then I ran into Aion through my girlfriend at the time, who happens to be Korean, a few months ago and started playing on the Korean server Arscarlan. I was immediately hooked! FFXI has always been one of my favorite mmo's and Aion definitely has some FFXI-qualities to it.

Before reading any further, please know that we have made certain decisions based on the rules and capabilities NCSoft has currently set on the Korean side. Will they be exactly the same for EU/NA players? We don't know. Will they be similar? We think so.

So how HARDCORE is Ultima?

I hate labeling guilds as casual or hardcore. Look, this is a game and we all play it to have fun. For some, fun may be to hit level 50 as soon as possible (Me!) and for others it may consist of hitting max crafting level as soon as possible. Is it logical to label one more hardcore than the other? In our opinion no, it is absurd.

With that being said, we are looking for players that play often; whatever you may decide is your forte. You have to enjoy logging in. It shouldn't feel like a chore. Our guilds have always felt like after hour parties, with members hanging out even if not playing. For myself at least it has always been about building friendships. I think back to previous games and I doubt many members remember who got what from which raid.

So what's the catch?

Have a mic. I can't believe this still has to be stated. It's 2009! If you are logged in to the game, we would also like you to be logged into Ventrilo; just to increase community participation.

Have a fun personality. Anyone can hit level 50. But, if you are a huge cock-face, no one is going to want to play with you.

Have some initiative. Nothing annoys us more than players who want a piggy-back ride the entire time. This guild/legion is not here to hold your hand to level 50. We all want to play and excel our characters. Granted, if you have a question please ask, and we will be more than happy to answer, but check the forums first. Everything you need from quest guides to crafting guides will be provided on our forums prior to NA-launch.

We are not a role playing guild/legion per say, but we do not discourage it. With that being said, please name your characters accordingly. We picked Elyos because we represent the light. Also, there is no set age limit. 14 or 40, you will be treated as members. The light side always has a tendency to attract a younger crowd so please keep the conversation clean, or at least not so blatantly vile that a little part of us dies.

In the words of my current guild-leader, "1 men : 1 chars." Unless NCSoft makes some changes, we will not be allotting any alt-spaces. That does not mean that you are stuck with the class you first choose when you get invited into the guild/legion. Simply let us know you have changed your preference, and we will remove your current character out and invite your new one. We will however be creating a guild for our alts as well, but the name has not been decided yet.
