Opening Barrage
Posted by Methedras on 23-Apr-09 06:44pm
April 16, 2009 - After a few false starts thanks to an epic failure of a patch day by Blizzard, we were finally able to briefly explore the new content brought to us with 3.1 without the instance servers imploding. Someguild's opening volley against the forces of Ulduar was a blast in more than one way. No more of that same old song and dance! The recycled Naxxramas, and quick Malygos and Obsidian Sanctum raids have been trumped with what has proven to be a very enjoyable zone thus far.
Right off the bat we took to our seige engines, choppers, and demolishers. A path of destruction was ripped through the trash with ease and we came before the Flame Leviathan. Players were launched, tar was ignited, cannons blared, tensions ran high briefly, but in the end laughter and cheers ensued. The fight was a blast, and I think each of us are looking forward to the content reset so we can experience it once more. In fact, some of us hopped into a late-night, 10-man for fun immediately after the raid just to experience the fight again - this we did on the first Hard Mode successfully. I would imagine next week we'll do the same in Heroic mode.
After that, you can head directly to Razorscale, Ignis, or XT-002. Four bosses in rapid succession is a great way to start a zone. We chose Razorscale as our second target of the night. This is another well designed battle in which raid coordination is key. We took a few lumps along the way as we learned the nuances of the encounter, but it felt like raiding again. The sleepwalking of WotLK has been replaced with something to keep us awake once more. Below are a few snapshots of the fun night, and we're looking forward to heading back in there when things are more stable so we can make some real progress.

For the Horde!
Posted by Methedras on 24-Mar-09 06:05pm
March 2, 2009 - "Lok'tar ogar! Victory or death - it is these words that bind me to the Horde. For they are the most sacred and fundamental of truths to any warrior of the Horde. I give my flesh and blood freely to the Warchief. I am the instrument of my Warchief's desire. I am a weapon of my Warchief's command. From this moment until the end of days I live and die - For the Horde!"
These words are too often forgotten amongst our brethren. This week we sought to remind them, gathering our forces to march upon the cities of the Alliance. We would remind them as well of that which began with the First War.
We started with Magni Bronzebeard in the dwarven city of Ironforge. Through demonic magic and stealth we summoned our assembled forces inside The Great Forge. Magni's hammer soon clattered against the stone floor of The High Seat. Many members of the Alliance rallied against us, but they were turned away in death and flames. Word reached Stormwind quickly, but so did we. Using their own Deeprun Tram against them, we carried our invasion to Stormwind City.
King Varian Wrynn and his assembled guardsmen and confidants were no match for our strength of arms. Steel clashed with steel as arcane energies hurtled forward crushing the life from our foes. A weak resistance of humans, night elves, dranei, dwarves, and gnomes ensued. None would stand before us. As quickly as we came, we departed through a portal to Orgrimmar and took flight to Zoram'gar Outpost. From there we rode. In our wake, Auberdine was razed.
We then seized the very vessels of our enemies and sailed towards Darnassus. There we laid waste to Tyrande Whisperwind not once, but twice. She who had once gifted us with The Tears of the Goddess that we might defeat Archimonde, was far from immune from our wrath. There was little in the way of resistance in Darnassus, but there was none in Exodar.
Prophet Velen must wonder just how welcome his dranei are if not a single Alliance warrior would come to his aid. His guards fell as quickly as he did, his light extinguished.
Victory or death.

The Death of Illidan Stormrage
Posted by Methedras on 28-Oct-08 11:15pm
October 27, 2008 - We set a goal for ourselves that we knew would be difficult to achieve. Kill Illidan before the expansion while predominantly raiding only twice a week. Sure, if we raided six nights a week we could have done this in January or even before then. Luckily, we're smart enough to lead more balanced lives than that.

Some people will invariably claim that we only beat the content because of the 3.02 nerf. Anyone in this guild knows that simply isn't the case. We had just gotten to the Coucil prior to the patch and made a few attempts on the pull. This week we would start with them on our second night. They didn't last long.
The way was clear, and Akama stood ready to aid us in the coming battle.
We were both eager and determined. Some of us were, in fact, quite overeager. We only have to look at the logs of the initial attempt for proof that the crazy rumor that you need to let the main tank build at least some threat before critting the living daylights out of a raid boss may actually be true. Despite this proof, I know several of you are still not convinced.
Jokes were made. Laughs were shared, and then we dropped the gloves.
Three attempts later, Illidan fell.

Congratulations Someguild! We've put a lot of time and effort into achieving this goal, and I'm proud to have been a part of it. Special congratulations to Beefcubes on his shiny new Warglaive of Azzinoth!!

The So-Called Destroyer of Guilds
Posted by Methedras on 08-Aug-08 03:06pm
August 7, 2008 - The so-called destroyer of guilds is no more. Someguild once more stands victorious! It took us a few nights of attempts before we had the right group composition and things clicked perfectly, but we would not be denied. This is definitely one of the most fun and challenging fights Blizzard has created. We tweaked our strategy as we learned first hand from each of our mistakes, and in the end had a solid plan in place.
Of course, even the best laid plans dont always pan out, especially on a perfect attempt when your MT is over-eager with his Phaseshift Bulwark cooldown. Doh! Sorry about that one guys! Still we dusted ourselves off, recleared the garbage and like many other guild got to Phase 5 for the first time and easily secured the kill. Congratulations and thank you to all of you that helped us on this journey. Many epic rings and geeky titles were obtained.
We'll be heading back to kill Vashj and Kael'thas again for those that missed out, but our thoughts have collectively returned to Shadowmoon Valley and the master of The Black Temple. Wrath of the Lich King looms, but Illidan's days are numbered...
