Patch 3.1 is OUT!

Posted by megalowarriorx on 15-Apr-09 12:52am

So today is the day that we all have been waiting for.  It seems as though 3.1 has finally been released.  I drooled in anticipation as the patch downloaded, and fidgeted like a school girl on a field trip as the updater patched my game files.  Wait for it...wait for it!...DONE!  OMG YES LETS PLAY! ...wait.  The realms are down?  WTF BLIZZARD!

Yes, for all of us who were able to attempt to log on soon after the normal Tuesday of Doom maintenance, it seems we all must suffer a bit longer in our wait for patch 3.1.  However, there are a number of interesting things to read while you all snivel and QQ waiting for the realms to come back up.  I think the most prominent would have to be wowhead.com's patch notes, which had possible changes posted long before Blizzard confirmed them.  It can be found here:

http://www.wowhead.com/?patchnotes=3.1.0

Another interesting little site is wowheads re-vamped talent calculator.  It has the new talent trees for all classes as they will be seen after 3.1 (and the extraordinary amount of changes to each class) comes to life.  That can be found...HERE:

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent

Remember ladies and gentlemen.  Everything has changed.  For some, it's not much.  For others (Like us DK's) the changes are substantial.  You may have to shift the way you think.  Mess around with your talent trees.  Maximize your dps or avoidance, mitigation, or healing.  Whatever it is you do, try to do it well, and feel free to ask your class officers for help/advice.  But please keep in mind, we are all dealing with these changes and your class officers are not experts in the way things work now, so bear with us!  Have fun playing guys and gals!

The Soldiers of Light is a fun and helpful guild with the goal of raiding without pugging.
We currently have over 100 members and a great group of skilled players helping our growth.
We are seeking more members to start raiding. We are open to both new play...

We have finished naxx 10man only and have it on farm, but due to lack of players, we have
yet to start naxx 25 as a guild.

Though we (individually) have done naxx 25 / vault 25 / OS 25 but not Maly 25.

Eventually 25-man content will be considered once our guild has enough people.

Traits: Beginner-Friendly, Casual, Chatty, Crafting, Experts, Family-Friendly, Farming, Social, PVE, PVP, Raiding.

All class open please apply @ http://www.gamerdna.

New 80's...gear and raid progression

Posted by Kupono on 25-Jan-09 10:58pm

Well, including alt's, we have 8 level 80's in the guild.  Newest 80's are Julieana, Roarkh, Reamdia, and Frek.  Our high level 70's and level 80's have run some level 77-80 instances together and our 80's ran heroic Nexxus the other day.  For the level 80 instances I think any of our 80's, and 75+ guys, can run them with virtually any group make up.  But, for heroics we have a couple issues:
First and foremost our DPS needs to be higher.  Julieana, Roarkh, Frek, Verchan/Reamdia (swaped toons), and myself ran heroic Nexxus the other day and simply got owned by Annomulus (spelling).  Group DPS was roughly 3800, anywhere from 600-700 from the tank(I need some work too) and regular DPS putting out from 900 to 1200.  for Heroics we need 1200 DPS average from the 3 DPS'ers and 700-800 from the tank, which gives us about 4400 DPS.  That may seem like a small difference but when you do the math on 600 DPS difference over the course of a 5 min fight, for example, it adds up to 180,000 extra damage, and thats substantial.  1200 DPS for starters in heroic so that we can work up to 1600 DPS to start raiding Naxxaramas.  Everyone should have a DPS meter of some kind, I've tried several and recount seems to be the easiest to operate and the most accurate.  Some of the issue is gear (quest greens and blues), but most of it has to do with tweaking your spec (talent points) and cast/hit rotations.  If you've been trying different things and can't seem to get any substantial improvements, Google it, there's a lot of help on the internet or ask one of the class Officers (leaders, if you have one) or Captains.
The second issue is group make up, and thats more of a function of who is in the guild and on at the time.  As we are getting closer to being able to raid (ie Naxxaramas), the guild Captains and Officers are going to start looking to specifically recruit level 78-80 characters that will help balance out our guild.  We currently are about 48% plate wearers, and the lvl 80 mains are about 85% plate wearers (93% if Verchan plays Reamdia).  Entirely to much plate wearing melee DPS.  If we are to do well in a raid environment, however casual, we need to recruit 1-2 druids (tank/healer/DPS), 1 shaman (off heals/DPS), 1 hunter (DPS), 1 warlock (DPS), 1 rouge(DPS).  So right now we are looking for 78 to a fresh dinged 80 in those classes/specs that will be happy in a 1-2 raids a week guild.

Thank you for your contributions

The guild bank is full to the limit.  I'm trying to keep the less expensive items down to 1 or 2 stacks.  If you need anything from the bank, more than you can take out, to level a skill or something just let an Officer or Captain know.  Our guild has grown, so we need to just put rare and epic pieces in the bank.  Ask your guildies in chat if they need a "green" item and if you can't get rid of it and you still want to donate it...vendor or AH it and deposit the money in the bank.  Thanks for your help.

p.s. I'm glad our guild is big enough to have this problem...woohoo!
