State of the Guild

Posted by Linan on 16-Dec-07 03:11pm

I have been a westie for almost 6 months now. I have seen the guild grow to the point that there were 10-15 westies playing everytime I logged on, but I was also around for the 3 weeks where I was the only one that logged on. So in short, I've been here for the good and the bad.

I'll admit that I considered leaving when it hit the two week mark and I was the only person playing in the guild. The guild seemed to be the patient on the table in some cheesy ER episode that the doctors are trying desperately to revive while watching the clock and getting ready to pronounce it dead.

Well folks, last night there was that first blip on the heart monitor. Not only were 5 people active and chatting IN the game at once last night. We also had a 4 person westie "sneaking creature" hunt. It was great to see, and even greater to fellow with you last night. We should definitely do it again soon.

So let's grow this blip into a full heart beat, let's try to get more people who show the qualities of a westie to join us. Let's build this guild back up.

Caerdwyn, when he stepped down, initially asked for Krili to succeed him. Now that Krili is back, I have honored that request and promoted him to guild master in the game.

So welcome back those who are back. Welcome to officerhood to the new officers, make us proud. Welcome Krili to the leadership of the guild.

A Modicum of Decorum

Posted by Caerdwyn on 24-Sep-07 07:29am

Tonight someone logged in (who hadn't been on in a while) and immediately began spewing a bunch of abuse into the kin channel. When questioned about this he said "I leave this kin now!" (nice grammar) and did so.

I very strongly suspect that account was hacked, and reported my suspicions. We'll see what comes of it.

But this brings up something else which has been bothering me lately. Recently, the "quality of discourse" on the kin chat channel has been... crude. Army locker-room crude. Ladies and gentlemen, this is not okay.

I am not going to name names (and in any event, if I did, my own might well be there as I have allowed myself to "respond in kind" from time to time, shame on me), so let's not worry about that. Please just keep in mind that we are a friendly bunch, and the teasing needs to be moderated with a bit of common sense. We are not a bunch of brats with Mommy's credit card playing WoW. We are the Shadows of the West, and that means that we treat each other well, and that we hold ourselves to a higher standard than the "we'll accept anyone as long as they raid/PvP" faceless überguilds. We are above the ordinary and the common.

This doesn't mean "no sexual innuendo" or "no swearing". It means "keep it clever, keep it light-hearted, and keep it friendly". We need to look forward to hearing from each other, not roll our eyes with a "Oh, there HE is again... yup, there's the bathroom humor, right on schedule!".

The past is only important in that it has lessons for what we do in the future.

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled LotROing. And yes, it's official, I'm a dick.

Raid Wasp Killer

Since Maddox has taken his leave of absence and otheres have become lvl 50, raids have become some what of an issue. We have never been a raid Kin, and since a vast majority of us are champions, we arn't able to even fellow very effectivly either. Faril and Vold have both left to join Forged by Fire so that they can take place in Kin raids. This is good and bad. First the bad, we loose to well respected and well liked members of the kin. Now for the good news. Even though LotRO doesn't offer any sort of Kinship coalation, I will be trying to gather conections with other Kins so that those of us who wish to raid with people that they know, will be able too, without having to leave us Weaties if they do not wish too. I have asked Faril and Vold to keep us posted if they ever need raid memebrs. I have teamed up with a few folks from Forged and they are a good group of folks. I will also be trying to contact one of there Provosts to ask him the same. I also keep in touch with Shadowrose who left a while back to join Oblivion. Although I'm not sure what there Kin is like because I havn't fellowed with them, I will talk to Shadowrose to see if they ever need raid memebers. As far as conections go, these are the only two I have so far and because raid loot relies on the trust of the raid leaders I will need input from those taking part in the raids so I know whos a reliable Kinship. So any input on this matter would be greatly appreiciated. I hope this will ease the worries of Westies like me, who couldn't bare to leave and would still like to go on raids with people we know and trust.
