I think it's just interested to get married ingame. I've never done it personnally, but like most have said it's just one more way to get real indepth with your virtual world.

"In fact, as the following stories demonstrate, a virtual wedding is a combination of social entertainment, extensive role-playing and sometimes political intrigue. Instead of thinking of a virtual wedding as the corrupt bastard child of a real world contractual agreement, the virtual wedding should be considered as an elaborate form of collaborative digital story-telling – a ritual of its own right that fulfills a completely different purpose." quoted from article

I think in game weddings are great fun since I come at it from a purely RP point of view. In SWG, I had a couple different avatars and they each had different lives. Different lives = different husband in some cases.

My RL husband thought it was stupid to get married in a game. When I finally pestered him about it, he ended up divorcing me IG a week later to wear a modded ring..lol. I tend to talk on a more personal level with guildmates, friends in game anyway and IG husbands more so. I make it clear that I am married and nothing goes further IRL than chatting online or IG.

I've been married to 3 different people in game.My first marriage was great, but had too much drama and ended. My second marriage, the guy vanished from the game for like 6 months and came back only to vanish again...ended that one. I was married to #1 and #2 at the same time with different avatars. It worked out well because both had different game schedules and were fine with sharing anyway. So, it kept things casual. My third is still alive somewhat. We both have had RL stuff to take care of and then the game has lost it's appeal. We are still good friends and chat almost daily. We share alot of common interrests IG/IRL and are from the same area originally. We each have a good RL relationship with our significant other/spouse so there is no worry about things going too far to ruin it.

It's a fun experience given you go about things in a way that doesn't disrupt RL.

It's all part of the game.If you and your partner are steady duo buddies, then why not.I'm sure some can get carried away with it,but it's still a game,no matter how much RL time you put into it.But these RL games games do create real bonds.

I agree with Muffynz & Tkyle & Arelos@738, the fact is that
1 it can be a natural progression with a female character, either offline or even online.
2 if you play the game enough and are there all the dang time then why not it is almost better than a real life relationship least you can put time into that one instead of your real life one.
3 it is even better when you get your significant other(wife/husband or gf/bf) to play too and you are married in there makes it even mroe fun.
4 if you are married in the game, you can get alot out of your spouse in the game better weapons or if youw anted to start a new character or make a better character they can set you up easily if they are a really high level already too. This helps out alot when you are a low level and you can level together really easy makes it really fun.
5 you will always have an exping partner when you want to go out and do something in the game you know they will always be there and not flake out on you when your eally need them.
6 you know they will always have your back(and vice versa) when it come into play in a PvP they either will beat down your foes or help you defeat your foes if they pick on you at all.

Keep in mind you dont have to know them in real life to get all the benefits of a marriage but it certinally helps out in the long run. As in any realationships in RL(real life). But i like to get married when i find the right person out there that i know i can take care of and support, but can stand on their own when needed. Being a guy I dont look for the first pice of meat that walks by I do scout my options and talk and get the feel of people and talk to them before I do start anything.

One thing to keep a look out for is RL MEN posing as WOMEN in games to get free stuff... this is why you need to also get out of the game and use AIM or YIM or some kinda IMer to see if they are really women, cause I hate the Guys who pose as women to get free stuff when you put your effort into a relationship that isnt going anywhere. Unless you 2 are gay/lesbian then so be it by all means go for the same sex... JUST BE HONEST ABOUT IT! Since I am straight, I prefer a women.

Even though I don't think I would ever do this, I'm not against it. You play games to enjoy them. I would never laugh at a couple doing this or try to make them feel like what there doing is strange. I'd probably congratulate the two of them and let them keep having fun with this.

Well, I've been game married once. She and I were good friends and it just seemed a "natural" progression. I enjoyed it, it was like another aspect of role playing during the game play. I admit it is not for everyone, but for those who want and can enjoy it, it certainly can heighten the game play.

If the game supplies, like SWG, I'll do it.

I will never ever understand this. I will continue to laugh at people who do this, sorry it just seems weird to me.
