"It looks to me like they are trying to give some real incentives to the whole Guild Loyalty and Guild Hopper mentalities."

DAoC has the leveling guilds system already - although a pointless version of it (you don't really get anything from the leveling itself). It has the basic mechanics they mentioned - the guild earns points when members reach milestones (level, gain a realm rank, get a new master level, that sort of thing).

But I doubt the goal is to encourage loyalty - Mythic's idea of a good guild is a growing guild (at least for DAoC - maybe the WAR guys have entirely different views). The guild leveling system in DAoC was designed to reward growth, specifically. I expect this one to do the same. Loyalty might earn points, but I think leveling a lot of alts and inviting new members will earn many MORE points.

The "what sort of guild you are" bit is intriguing, as I haven't heard anything about that before... I'm hoping it's a formal thing where you get to define your guild, as more complex social structures is one thing I want to see out of MMOs, but I imagine it's probably just "if you like PvEing you can choose the PvE reward, or if you like crafting you can choose the crafting reward"... the DAoC system does have different bonuses you can buy that I suppose could be said to reflect what kind of guild you are.

I agree with Adythiel that it would be great if there was a way to flag someone as a guild hopper. Maybe even something as detailed as a guild reputation flag where recruitment officers could see how many guilds that person had been in previously, and how long they stayed.

It sounds like a step in the right direction to me. I would love to see guilds as more than a leader a few officer's and a gaggle of people. Mythic has ten years or so worth of MMO's out there. it would be easy to take a page from thier notebook's and avoid the same mistake. My money is on Mythic, they'll make it work !!!

It looks to me like they are trying to give some real incentives to the whole Guild Loyalty and Guild Hopper mentalities. It could be a great thing, it could suck. We need to see more of its implementation, but I am excited about getting to see it.

It could also go the opposite way, and these guild hoppers could seek out only the top level guilds, which wouldn't really change anything. Allowing guilds to keep progress from members that have left would help. It would also be a great benefit to guild leadership if some of the rewards could be enabled or disabled based on guild rank like we had in DAoC for stuff like Emblems on shields and cloaks.

It's nice to see Mythic really trying something different in regards to guilds, but until the details are known it's hard to say if it will be a good thing or a bad thing. I do applaud the fact they are trying to bring in loyalty incentives.

Seems to me that people are already weary of the level grind, and now there's a new level up scheme called "guild level". I remember seeing this in DAOC when we came back to Gareth. We would rank up based on a lot of factors, but I never really noticed any benefit from it.
