Richard Duffek leaves EA Mythic

In a surprising turn of events, Warhammer Online community manager Richard Duffek (known on GuildCafe as Richard_EAMythic) has "parted ways" with EA Mythic. No further information as to why the sudden split appears to be available at this time, and likely never will be, considering that no details of Sanya's leaving earlier this year were ever made public.

1) Ultima Online - went south when EA closed Origin in 2004.
2) Earth & Beyond - killed by EA in 2004
3) WAR - ?

And then consider the story of ea_spouse (http://ea-spouse.livejournal.com/274.html) and things start to form a pattern :/

EA is often referred to as the Microsoft of the gaming industry, 'assimilating' the competition and growing bigger and bigger.

Sounds to me like either the good people are getting plucked away by the competition or people are jumping ship before it get's bad. Add that in with some of the things you hear comming out of WAR beta some good some bad it makes you wonder. I do know this much I haven't heard much to get me excited about WAR in a while now.

Richard Duffek was an effective Community Manager at EA Mythic. I can't believe it. First Sanya, now Richard. It seems to me that EA Mythic is cutting off its nose to spite its face. Incredible.

This sucks. GL to Richard in his future endeavors.

Don't think there's anything to REALLY worry about. Yet at least.

Darkscribe also left. I am not surprised in the least after hearing some of the horror stories surrounding the EA work environment.

It's hard to know what to say after this he will be missed.

From: Grarghsies on 14-Sep-2007 at 01:02pm

Hm sucks

From: Tjuhl on 14-Sep-2007 at 03:31am

I'd guess another one (*cough* Sanya *cough*) taking the opportunity of a better job offer.

We'll see when Richard's non-competition clause is over.

Wow man, thats real lousy. I've never seen a more dedicated CM

From: Kutulu on 14-Sep-2007 at 01:18am

It's too bad. Richard was out in the gaming community more than any game staffer I've ever seen.
With the amount of different, seemingly random, posts he'd comment on - - on all the different WAR community hot spots... plus going to gaming shows... plus whatever else his responsibilities were...

He may have just burnt out.... who knows....

He'll be missed.

@Zeli: I dont know, I just did what my kids do and said "Eenie, meenie, minee, moe ..."

Mythic has huge flaws when it comes to keeping great games together, look at DAoC.

From: Zeli on 13-Sep-2007 at 09:40pm

Do i vote positive because I want people to know about it or do I vote negative because it sucks?

From: Rellik San on 13-Sep-2007 at 07:41pm

No way... just... no way.
