EA begins restructuring and layoffs commence at EA and Mythic

Owing to sagging profits and and a less-than-firm grip on their once invulnerable spot at top of the third party heap, Electronic Arts is looking to make some changes in their corporate structure, starting with Mythic and their Redwood Shores studio.

This is pretty frustrating regardless. I quit UO when EA took over. Its a big company, they have their attention divided all over the place. This game has alot of anticipation and a huge fan base already so they can't afford to mess around with it. We'll see where it leads I spose.

I knew it would happen. I said as much but Mythic denied there would be any changes. I was there when they wrecked UO and have just quit DAoC for good. I pretty well stopped when the laid off (?) Sanya and the changes to the game are dumbing it down as they did UO. It is sad as they EA should stick to single player games. I may not even try WarHammer.

I don't believe in coincidences - first WAR closes beta for 2 months, then we hear about layoffs at EA in roughly the same timeframe... Call me pessimist if you want, but now AoC looks more attractive than ever.

Not a real shock to me, but I am surprised that it took this long to happen... not uncommon with company/corporate acquisitions.

From what I've been told WAR isn't going to suffer much from this. UO on the other hand...well they've lost some developers that have been moved over to WAR or just plain laid off.

I do wonder whats gonna happen to Pandemic and Bioware..but then again the acquisition of those studios isnt even done until January. So I doubt anything has happened there.

Buy up 2 top-notch independent studios and then dismantle their teams due to lack of profits. What an investment.

I've got a bad feeling about the future of the industry.

nice to know I am not only one going through.... "restructuring" changes at my job, I pray for all of them

While not surprising, it IS horrible news. Both Mythic and Bioware used to be great studios. This does not bode well for WAR...

I fear for BioWare.

"Restructuring" huh? That's a shocker.
